In the heart of Silicon Valley, fast food workers are fighting for access to basic information on their rights.

A new report (www.chirla.org/fastfoodworkersreport/) finds that 94% of fast food workers surveyed in CA didn’t know they have a right to paid sick leave and workers’ comp. Many reported threats of deportation or ICE action just for speaking up about stolen wages or unsafe conditions.

On August 26, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will vote on whether to create Know Your Rights trainings for fast food workers in the county. Multinational fast food corporations are spending huge sums to lobby against this one local policy - they are afraid of workers learning that they have rights.

Please support the workers by sending a letter to the Board of Supervisors: actionnetwork.org/letters/prot

actionnetwork.orgProtect Reproductive Rights for Fast Food Workers On Tuesday, April 8, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will vote on a plan to advance Know Your Rights training for fast food workers—a critical step in ensuring that workers can advocate for themselves against exploitative employers. These trainings will help protect workers’ rights to medical care during pregnancy, parental leave, and fair treatment on the job. Send a letter to the Board of Supervisors urging them to pass this plan.

"Special education and migrant education programs are being hollowed out, regardless of their effectiveness to interrupt generational poverty, or stave off long-term financial disability...Public education is not a short-term investment. Its value is measured in the lives it shapes and the opportunities that it can create." #SantaClaraCounty #education sanjosespotlight.com/op-ed-pub

San José Spotlight · Op-ed: Public education in Santa Clara County needs a defender - San José SpotlightAs institutions across the county contend with an ideological shift, the Santa Clara County Office of Education is intent on implementing broad austerity instead of ensuring care, access and equity to all.

"Monterey County Agriculture is a $4.3 billion-dollar economic sector that depends on 55,000 farmworkers to harvest our crops each year, primarily immigrants; some have resided in our communities for decades.
Our nation’s fresh food supply and local economy are fully dependent on this workforce, and we consider this a #NationalSecurity priority in a time of agricultural labor shortages.” —#MontereyCounty Farm Bureau montereycfb.com/immigration-re

Five years ago #SantaClaraCounty was a leader in responding to #covid. Now the slow motion surrender is complete. All policies retired, no more notifying staff they were exposed, no outbreak tracking, and departments ordered to stop purchasing test kits. Declared victory and went home.

The recent #SantaClaraCounty #California adult who contracted #measles presumably contracted it while passing through an US airport.

The #CDC is recommending that anyone who is not #vaccinated against measles, should postpone their domestic or international travel until they can get vaccinated based on the number of people who've been infected either in US airports or traveling through international airports

I love my County.
"The County of Santa Clara...reaffirms its unwavering support for the county’s immigrant community and connect immigrants who are under threat from the current federal administration to information and resources....
The campaign conveys that immigrants are a vital part of Santa Clara County and that, no matter where we were born or what language we speak, we all share the same dreams. It also serves to assure members of the immigrant community that County services remain available to them and have been reinforced to provide additional layers of support."

#Cupertino Whole Foods deli and bakery remain closed because of 🪳 & 🐀.

#SantaClaraCounty health inspectors closed them on March 25th when they found cockroaches and rodent droppings. The store was aware of the issues, because inspectors also found rodent traps.

At another inspection on Monday April 7, fresh rodent droppings were found in meal prep areas.

The rest of the store remains open if you like some hanta virus with your gluten-free muffins.
