James Mullen
#SeptembeRPG Day 29: A great game to play one on one
I've played Flesh & Spirit a few times, my game about a sorcerer summoning a being to grant their wishes and how that turns into a romance between them. It delivers a different story every time and the relationship between the two characters unfolds in many different ways, sometimes taking place across decades. #ttrpg

1/3

James Mullen
#SeptembeRPG Day 28: The dream game you want to exist
I have a hard drive full of these:
- The Honour & The Power, a PbtA-ish tribute to He-Man and She-Ra
- Carte Blanche, a DIY deck builder fantasy ttrpg where the players define & create the card decks
- The Phenomenals, a glam 1960s game about exiled fae bringing magic into the world through elaborate hoaxes
I could go on and on and on
#ttrpg

The dream game you want to exist. Tell us, maybe someone made it

I am really looking forward to the next step in game design that will make #TTRPG even easier to fit in our lives. Previous steps being eliminated preparation, commute, the need of someone having a free appartement/basement/castle, large and numerous books with sexist covers, cumbersome material (both to the backpack and to the mind), etc. What games will make roleplaying even more accessible?

James Mullen
#SeptembeRPG Day 27: A prompt that blew your mind
Can't really say I recall a single prompt that was that mind blowing, but we had some good ones in For the Queen that pushed us further down the road of portraying the Queen we all "loved" as a manipulative sociopath. That wasn't what I expected when I sat down to play the game, but it worked extremely well. #ttrpg

Just after the general context "The Queen chose you because she knows you love her". My first prompt: "The Queen is responsible for the death of someone you love. Who was it ? What happened?"

Keeping both context and prompt in mind built such a complex character and story in one fell swoop!

(I defended her at the end)

Except for a few, rock climbers wouldn't climb that high without the rope.

James Mullen
#SeptembeRPG Day 26: Safety mechanics saved the fun when...
We were playing Fiasco, with the X Card on the table, and it came time to frame a scene with another PC, so I suggested him being in bed with his step-mother, a detail that hadn't even previously been hinted at. The player's initial reaction was to tap the X card, but after a moment's thought, they held back and went for it, with the confidence that they could still cut the scene if it went anywhere they didn't like. #ttrpg

Même une règle aussi évidente que "si tu ne sais pas, demande" peut être volontairement brisée.

Les points fixes que je garde se situent plutôt aux frontières du jeu : règles et vocabulaire de sécurité émotionnelle, débrief, etc.
