A Geek in Korea
Spent the better part of four months reading the Dune series for the first time because I wanted to run a game in that universe. Bought the Modiphious 2D20 books to get that type of universe and was let down by the mechanics being clunky. I can't do what I want to do with the system and the rules are too cumbersome for their own good.

I began to dread having to prep the game rather than enjoy playing it. I was doing everything myself, art, mechanics, custom Houses, custom ecology... I had a fire and a hyperobsession going and channeled for productivity then suddenly poof, it disappeared when the Dune books were read. I could play in the universe unspoiled, but no longer had the desire to do so. I got burnt out and my passion never returned.

I was recently introduced to Court of Blades, which is courtly intrigue with a less grimdark version of Blades in the Dark. I adore Blades in the Dark, a system I am familiar with from prior games as a player and GM.

Had I started with Court of Blades for the Dune hack, I'd be two months in and probably still going strong, but I decided to fold the experience instead.

I don't want to play a half-baked game I don't enjoy making. We have other GMs in the group that have games they are passionate about hacking and using their time to play a game that I wasn't vibing with anymore makes no sense.

I told the players that I was stopping the Dune game and any related hacks for the near future so I could focus on their efforts making new games and join them as a player instead. Maybe I'll revisit my ideas fresh later when I get a new source of inspiration.

I think recognizing that hacking the games to fit a system that couldn't support it wasn't a priority I felt I could justify pursuing because of my current schedule and responsibilities. My players responded positively about the game up to the point where I had left it, but didn't feel upset I didn't leave them with any closure.

I am spoiled to have such an understanding group of players. I will be playing a new character in our session of #SomethingTookish 'Hobbits in the Shire cozy mystery game' this weekend.
