My favourite modes of transport within the city in order of preference:
1. Bicycle
2. Walking
3. Tram
4. Bus
I wish #Graz had electric buses, at the moment they only seem to have hybrid ones.
My latest piece for the Irish Examiner examines the implications of the recent Congestion Cost report on the future of transport planning for Cork city.
If the report has taught us anything it is that we need a lot more ambition and a greater sense of urgency in the delivery of public transport and active travel infrastructure. We need to plan for the future we want, not just mitigate against the future we might have.

The stadtnavi system, built on Trufi’s open-source platform, shows how cities can democratize mobility. Real-time updates, CO₂ comparisons, and weather alerts aren’t exclusive to Herrenberg—they’re open for any city to implement. The project’s success lies in its adaptability: a white-label solution that lets cities rebrand and expand it freely.
Herrenberg is boasting about about their multimodal system for sustainable transport: stadtnavi. Hey, other cities, don't be jealous: Just adopt the solution, developed by Trufi.
Updating my #BusConnects Core Bus Corridor planning status document which now shows that all CBCs have been granted planning permission by An Bord Pleanála but there are now a total of 13 Judicial Review cases underway against six of the schemes with more likely against the recently granted Kimmage to City Centre scheme.

A kid in my neighborhood has a relationship with public transportation.
Trara = Late. Was this kid late for the bus, or was the bus late?

"The Project is predicted to result in a permanent moderate adverse effect on climate, which is considered to be significant"
From Galway County Council's Further Information Response Report in relation to the Galway City Ring Road. The full submission is now available to view on the An Bord Pleanála website at https://www.pleanala.ie/en-ie/case/318220
This old promotional film reminds us that cities in the global North abandoned – on purpose – proven electric solutions for car dependence. A policy choice, not an inevitability.

Yesterday the government published the draft National Planning Framework. The section on Galway City is full of sensible plans for compact urban development and sustainable transport.
The Galway City Ring Road looks like an anomaly stuck in there near the end, almost like it was added in at the insistence of politicians rather than something the planners view as essential.
Logistics in Antananarivo, Madagascar: e-bike delivery, headloads, minibuses
A Madagascar cable car spotted in the wild today. (Squint and you'll see it.) Still not operational. Still not what 95% of Malagasy need – water, electricity, sidewalks, bike lanes. But...
In rural Zimbabwe, electric tricycles are empowering women by providing financial independence and boosting self-esteem. Women like Anna are now operating these green energy vehicles, contributing significantly to household expenses and gaining respect in their communities. The initiative by Mobility for Africa offers a lease-to-purchase program at $15 a month, making these tricycles accessible to many.

Good article by @sadhbhoneill on changing to more sustainable transport patterns. She makes the point that behavioral change is a collective endeavour which needs to be supported by the government and local authorities. Relying on individuals to change their behavior in the way Sadhbh has done is not going to achieve the necessary modal shift.

Site visits at a retail park in Blanchardstown and an industrial estate in Neilstown mightn't sound like the makings of a pleasant morning out of the office, but today was a perfect day for the bike and I was able to take in both site visits and enjoy a cycle through the Phoenix Park and along the Grand Canal, as well as a short stop for lunch in Chapelizod.
Next, look out for a robust EV charging infrastructure making electric vehicles more accessible.
It's time to say goodbye to range anxiety! #EV #SustainableTransport
