“This problem of environmental racism is personal… living in the midst of spaces where there are brown fields, lead paint, and the kinds of emissions that harm our community…”
“If we couldn’t breathe, we couldn’t fight for justice.”
“we are supposed to be fighting, building beyond this crisis right now.”

Australian citizen detained 32 times at Sydney airport accuses border force of systemic racism
<In court documents the federal government has argued there is no evidence that Igbinoba was ever discriminated against or targeted.
“There is not a skerrick of a basis to make such an allegation under the Racial Discrimination Act.”>
well, duh. *under our legal system, discretionary decision-making power is delegated to people down the chain. *discretion allows people to act within tolerances - to lean in one direction or the other without this being called an error. *discrimination is systemic when the system allows discrimination to flourish un-checked.
*most of us in the dominant caste have met/ know/ are related to some people inordinately proud of their ability to go undetected as they exercise discretion with active bias
<In its submissions, the federal government said “many of the officers … say they acted because there was an ‘alert’ attached to him as a person of interest which required them to carry out the instructions on the alert”.
The government said it opposed disclosing the details of any alerts placed on Igbinoba to the court, arguing these were “not relevant” to a case alleging racial discrimination.>
our government at work, spending our money in court, and resorting to the Nuremberg defense?
i would suggest that if mr igbinoba is really so dodgy as to justify repeated system flags and 32 instances of detention, with no resulting fine or conviction, then the people protecting us are bloody hopeless at their jobs

The nationalistic fervor I'm seeing in Canada creeps me out. The Canadian flag is not the great balm for the soul so many settlers think it is. It is a symbol of colonial oppression for Indigenous folks. It wasn't so long ago that those hidden graves at residential schools were discovered. More continue to be found at the sites of former residential schools, and genocide deniers have been taking over the narrative.
Indigenous communities still remain without drinking water despite political promises even while Nestle plunders nearby water sources.
A large percentage of calls to action for Truth and Reconciliation remain unmet.
I see the jingoistic flag-waving disturbing and alienating. I've already had people laughing at my alienation.
Do not alienate Indigenous people. As Jeff Doctor says over on BlueSky, "Remember who taught you about maple trees, about the food from these lands, the ways to keep safe and warm. Some of your ancestors have already resisted Americans alongside ours, learn from the true histories, not the nationalist versions."

Came across this story while researching #ThunderBay (where some of my ancestors are from). From 2019.
Inside the controversy over Thunder Bay’s #Indigenous #CommunityPatrol group
The #WiindoDebweMosewinPatrol monitors the city for people in distress and posts anonymized stories of racism on social media. Critics say it doesn’t value evidence — but the group insists that it’s after a different kind of truth

THUNDER BAY — "'Darryl' could tell you all about the negative interactions he’s had with the #ThunderBayPolice Service since he moved to the city from Sudbury in 2016. His girlfriend, his cousin, and most of his friends could tell you about interactions of their own. So could his grandfather, who told him that officers had once driven him out of town and left him on the highway to walk home — something known as a '#StarlightTour.'
"Darryl could tell you, but he won’t tell the police. He never files complaints. As an Indigenous person, he has no expectation that they would take him seriously: the Thunder Bay Police Service and its board, as demonstrated in two recent reports from #Ontario’s police-watchdog organizations, are plagued by #SystemicRacism.
"Instead, he has been telling his stories to #BearClanThunderBay, now known as the Wiindo Debwe Mosewin Patrol — a group of about 40 volunteers who circuit the streets, waterways, bridges, and woods, looking for people in distress. They don’t demand identification or interrogate him, he says. They offer him hot chocolate, and they listen.
"'I just feel more comfortable talking to people who understand the issues,' he says. 'Most people are in denial about the whole police situation, but me, personally, I’ve experienced it.'
"Depending on who you ask, Bear Clan Thunder Bay either found itself or put itself in the middle of the public conversation sparked by the reports. Local politicians — and the group’s parent organization, based in Winnipeg — have accused it of being anti-police, racially divisive, and alarmist. The Thunder Bay chapter, one of dozens across the country, was stripped of its right to use the Bear Clan name."

Fed #law allows the #Education Dept to withhold funds from any school that #discriminates based on #race or #sex.… #Trump & allies argue lessons about #SystemicRacism amount to #discrimination, because they presume certain things about people based on race, such as that White Americans enjoy certain privileges based on their race.

Why is Technocracy important? Why should anyone care about this idea? Because should we decide to implement it, there are a myriad benefits that would be enjoyed by everyone, such as no poverty, no pollution, very little crime, very little disease, free education and health care, economic stability, no politicians or lawyers, and no systemic discrimination (racism, sexism, religious, etc.) to name a few. Sound like a lot? Big claims require big evidence, and Technocracy has it, if you're willing to look.
But perhaps even more important is the fact that all of our current economic models, collectively called a "price system", have a life cycle, of birth, growth, decline, and death. This has been seen throughout history and can cause a great deal of turmoil. However this iteration of the Price System employs a great deal of technological power, and as such the upcoming collapse will entail unheard of levels of resource depletion, environmental damage, as well as human deaths of virtually every type. It will take centuries, if not longer, to recover from this collapse and even attaining our current standard of living will be far more difficult than it was this time. Our window to employ Technocracy to avoid this disaster will not last long.
Even other parts of the world would benefit from one area such as North America employing Technocracy, because it would eliminate the economic and political interference and exploitation of those areas.
So if you have a cause that you support, from social justice, to saving the climate, to economic reform, chances are Technocracy is our best way of handling it. Even if all you want is a better life for yourself and your loved ones, your chances would be much better by using this system.

Why is Technocracy important to me? Here's a list:
1) First, as a fan of science and technology, the idea of a system that is entirely based on hard science (as opposed to the so-called "political science"), and uses technology to its fullest extent to improve people's lives is a huge plus. Also, it's just such a well designed system. Once you've learned all the parts, and see how they work together, it's a beautiful thing, like an expertly designed machine.
2) Second, I hate politics. Thankfully, in Technocracy there is no politics, or politicians. No rich, privileged, or other elite running things however they like. Decisions are divided in the objective and the subjective. The former are driven by facts, logic, and science. The latter are left to the individual to decide for themselves. This makes Technocracy more free than any democracy that has ever existed.
3) Technocracy also has protection for the environment built-in at the most fundamental level, as seen in Technocracy's stated goal: "To provide each citizen with the highest standard of living possible, for the longest period possible." Technocracy was one of the earliest movements promoting environmentalism.
4) That part of the previously stated goal about "providing each citizen with the highest standard of living" means that everyone gets taken care of. Full consuming privileges from birth to death (somewhat akin to a "guaranteed income"), free education, and free health care. Because I believe that people are at their best and are most able to contribute to society when they are given proper care and support.
4a) I know such a life would certainly benefit me personally.
5) Technocracy treats everyone equally, simply because science does not recognize any need to do otherwise. People are only judged by their capacity to do a job, and even then only for determining their qualification for that job. Nothing else matters, like your sex, gender, race, religion, etc. Technocracy was promoting racial and gender equality 100 years ago.
