@elmcat the fine-grained skill list of #Midgard #ttrpg (überleben +6) I guess reflects the 80s design approach of simulating fictional persons (PCs) by describing them thru atomized sets of specific skills (s. #Runequest #Rolemaster #Gurps etc.). I find it astonishing that this design philosophy is still very much present in German tradgames, such as #TheDarkEye (DSA) or the DSA heartbreaker #Splittermond (53 skills) or the recent eds. of Midgard …Like it was 1987! 2/2 #ttrpghistory

Beautiful old schoolish black white drawings from the 3rd edition (1989) of #Midgard (Germany's first #ttrpg). Some of the 3rd ed artwork by K-M Blitzer and others was already present in the 2nd ed of the game (if I remember correctly).
My appreciation for some of the 3rd ed artwork is of course rooted in my preference of #osr esthetics (and, well okay nostalgia). Many of the 3rd ed illustrations convey #SwordAndSorcery vibes or reference an ancient early medieval milieu #pnpde #ttrpghistory

40 years ago this month, TSR released Rose Este’s Revolt of the Dwarves, an Endless Quest Adventure with art by Larry Elmore and Jim Holloway. Later that month a <redacted> year old me would have begged my folks to take me to B. Dalton to pick it up. 😅
