Zendadaist<p><a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/MMO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MMO</span></a> geekery ahoy</p><p>Having more time stuck at home sitting with my leg propped up, and thus relegated to my laptop, has meant I've been bored enough to see if I can get the original <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/TheSecretWorld" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TheSecretWorld</span></a> MMO game client working (the servers are still running). It stopped being playable on my main machine some time ago after a Win10 update messed with how add-ons work.</p><p>I did eventually get it to work on the laptop, though the launcher does get stuck in an infinite-patching loop about 40% of the time.</p><p><a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Funcom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Funcom</span></a> has a lot of faults. I've been playing their games for 20 years, so I'm quite familiar with their failings. But one thing they have always excelled at is the game soundscapes. It's always been atmospheric and heavily tied into the environment, conveying themes and ideas through well-timed musical stings and an excellent use of sfx, instead of just looping zone MP3s.</p><p>It's really nice just... listening to <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/TSW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TSW</span></a> once more through decent headphones. Travelling through the zones and hubs, and avoiding laughing-hyena woman in London.</p>
