Looking for #Linux help, if you're so inclined.

I am (gods help me) trying to get a #Brother printer/scanner working in #Debian 12 / #Gnome 43.9 on a #Thinkpad #T480S.

Before a recent reintallation of hte OS, the #CUPS driver used to work for printing but not scanning, *and* the Brother Linux printer drivers used to make the scanner work, too.

But now, neither works, and I get the error message: "Unable to locate printer" (followed by the correct IP address).

Follow up:

Got the (new to me) T14 Gen3 #ThinkPad and installed #Fedora 41 on it. Despite being a used machine, it is in better condition than my daily driver MacBook Pro from 2021.

Also, damn, this thing seems like it was made for Linux. Everything worked out of the box flawlessly.

The only snag was that it wouldn't boot from a USB C SD card reader but was fine from a USB-A reader (... weird).

Talking with the folks in the local #vintage / #retrocomputing community, they clued me in that the #ThinkPad #RAID is a steaming pile of 💩 and not worth the trouble.

🤷 Oh well. Thanks for cluing me in

So I swapped out the two testing #NVMe drives I was using and reinstalled the original sticks - to have #windoz10 demanding for the #bitlocker recovery key. 🤦‍♂️

Well, time to wipe & install #windoz11 then.

Install went fine, only 4 rando #drivers to find for all #devices to be recognized and working.

Using my #CTT scripts to install the majority of applications, then to remove the #spyware #bloatware and other garbage #micro$oft added to #windows11

Then migrate my #data from my other ThinkPad. Welcome to my #sunday #funday

A ThinkPad P70 workstation laptop, in the process of being rebuilt: Windows 11 having bin installed, now installing all the applications. The HWiNFO application is displayed on the screen, showing the specifications of the laptop.

@martinschlegel @Extelec Pretty much any version of #NetBSD should run on a #ThinkPad T23 out of the box, and #pkgsrc will include the ~latest #firefox. I tested it on a ThinkPad T41, which is only two years more recent than the T23 - youtu.be/jYS4TcgxMxU

Now, whether you can do anything *useful* in modern Firefox on a 1GB 32 bit machine... not so much

#PaleMoon or #ArcticFox are pretty capable browsers which run well on smaller machines - and #Dillo will *scream* on that spec hardware 😛

Ok, I spent yesterday afternoon trying to get #RAID configured on my #lenovo #ThinkPad #P70 - to no success.

I found this video youtube.com/watch?v=AyCC1NGe8a of the similar #p50 and configuring #RAID which shows the #BIOS interface but my P70's only show the "non-raid physical discs" I do not have an option for RAID volumes. Note I have upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version on lenovo's web site. Any thoughts?

I have attached 2 #screenshots of what the BIOS displays - I'm trying to configure the RAID on the two 512GB #NVMe sticks.

If you sigh with a smile, shake your head, or just shrug your shoulders whenever you see a person still using a clunky old #ThinkPad covered in stickers, try doing this with your fancy new laptop: My old work #ThinkPad has two SATA SSDs in a RAID-1 to guard against sudden SSD death and it has a third slightly slower mSATA SSD for regular restic backups of said RAID-1.

Sure, you might be able to buy yourself a B360 if you want. But that's roughly 9 times as expensive? 🤷
