**Vikings on the Silk Roads**

Neil Price

“_The viking presence in Europe is well known, extending east to Constantinople and the rivers of western Russia and Ukraine, alongside the settlement of the North Atlantic islands and ultimately a landfall on the coast of Newfoundland. But a key question remains: how far did that diaspora extend, especially to the south and east? How far did the vikings really travel?_”

Tonight's movie is The 13th Warrior (1999). It gets some bad reviews, but it has a 6.6 rating on IMDb and I really enjoy it. It's based on Michael Crichton's book "Eaters of the Dead."

A man, sent by the sultan on a diplomatic mission to a distant land as an ambassador, finds himself unwittingly embroiled in a quest to banish a mysterious threat in a distant Viking land.

It stars Antonio Banderas, Omar Sharif, Dennis Storhøi, Vladimir Kulich, Diane Venora, Tony Curran, & Richard Bremmer.

Directed by John McTiernan.

Fantastic soundtrack by Maestro Jerry Goldsmith!
