In der Rheinaue bei mir um´s Eck stehen einige hübsche Gruppen. Ist jedes Jahr spannend, ob die Orchideen oder die Begleitvegetation die optische Oberhand bekommen. Hier war es mal ausgeglichen. Mal sehen, ob sie dieses Jahr trotz der Trockenheit so schön zur Blüte kommen.

I left a shady corner from mowing this spring and it’s covered in Lesser celandine flowers - such a pretty flower - so glad I did! I now have an early Wildflower corner!

On north-facing slopes on the Rolling Plains eco region of the North American Great Plains, there grows a wildflower which has remained overlooked...until I stumbled across it. Thus began my journey of becoming a botanist so I can describe it as a new species...a work still in progress.

Some more spring impressions from my hometown.

We had several days of warm spell (high twenties) and today we're back to 5-6C. Sometimes I feel like I'm still in Scotland..

Two tiny white crocus blooms (about 1 to 1.5cm wide in diametre). The ground around them are carpeted with small green leaves.

Pale pink plum blossoms agains the background of light blue sky.

Camellia type deep and bright pink flowers and their dark green leaves.

A miniature blue flower (about 5mm in diamitre) with five petals and whitish yellow disk in the middle, blooming on the ground with some light green (some brown) leaves on the ground. As I was taking this picture, our dog got curious and nosed around the area I was photographing. Thus, on the upper left side of the picture, we can see a massive, creamy-coloured, and out of focus muzzle of our dog.

Saponaria officinalis blooms in the Netherlands in the summer and is quite common there in the wild, including on our golf course. There they bloom in large groups. I photographed them after a fresh rain shower. Always fun to do, because of the many raindrops. Moreover, I think it is a beautiful flower. Also for a garden. In the Netherlands the plant is called "Zeepkruid (Soapwort)". These are the pink flowers of the Saponaria officinalis. In the photo a small piece of stem (horizontal, coming from the left in the middle) with in the middle and right of the photo a bunch of 15 small pink flowers and about 10 still in bud. The sepals of the flowers are rolled up into a tube of one centimeter, from which the light pink petals protrude (5 petals per flower). It has rained. Some flowers are a bit wilted by the rainfall, but others have already recovered. Lots of raindrops lie on the leaves. The background is vague and darkgreen in which various different types of leaves still can be recognized.
