Looks like libro.fm is having a weeklong sale leading up to Indie Bookstore Day* and there are lots of great deals for DRM-free audiobooks!!! I've already gotten three in addition to my monthly credit and I may buy more 😆

*I think the name varies, but this is the name for the Canadian version, organized by the Canadian Independent Booksellers Association. They even have a website to help people fine indie booksellers!!!

Question for ANYONE who does audio and video editing.

Is there any website (like SkillShare, etc) that offers complete training in Open Source software (not ADOBE only for example for video)?

I use Audacity, OBS/SLOBS at the moment, but want to learn more. I also use Linux only, so no Microsoft or Mac only.

I found I learn better watching and creating, rather than reading off a website. Between my disabilities and ADHD, I have to find a way to do it on my own time.

I have a background in hardware support, but want to learn editing (is it engineering?).

Budget is an issue :(

I'm currently working through reading "Red Mars", the first in an impressive sci-fi trilogy about the first settlements on Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. The 24-hour audiobook has been taking me weeks, it's been quite a mental grind: infuriatingly drawing me in.

After, I'll listen to the supernatural-cyberpunk-detective-noir audio drama "Roy Kaplan" by a fan fiction author my friend likes.

Then, I'll keep on working books again. I already have "The Outsiders" by Ada Hoffman and the last two books of the Murderbot Diaries on my mind. After those, I'll likely try the sequel, "Green Mars", then take a break again with some other works before I listen to the last book of the trilogy if I still like it.

I've finished: Cage of Souls by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I read Cage of Souls after reading Tchaikovsky's 2024 penal colony novel Alien Clay.

It was interesting to view such similar premises that play out so differently.

An authoritarian regime that refuses to acknowledge scientific reality sends its dissidence to a deadly penal colony. The complexity of reality we discover along the way paves the way to a new future.

While Alien Clay is set in a universe where humans colonized space and are exporting their imperialist ideals. Cage of Souls is set at humanities twilight, after it failed to leave for the stars.

In Clay, the focus is on political dissent, dogma and science. In Souls, the dissidents are a mixed bag of the disenfranchised that have run afoul of the elite, each with their own agendas. More like in, City of Last Chances.

I really enjoyed the richness of the world, with such a deep past and present, yet so much of it unknown, With a curious scholar as the protagonist and unreliable narrator.

Good night! #3GoodThings
1. Finished a chapter in Braille! 🙌🏻
2. Didn’t do as well as I did yesterday but still got all my fitness rings closed and my steps in.
3. Hubs is off the next two days. ❤️
Bonus: I finished The Cross-Country Quilters this morning and started The Runaway Quilt. Hubs and I finished the book we were listening to and it was odd. Not a book I would recommend.
Sleep well and may your dreams be out of this world. 🤗🫶❤️🫂 #GoodNight #Braille #Fitness #AudioBooks

Good morning! Wishing you all an amazing day filled with sunshine, love, laughter, high energy and positivity! Other than the usual chores, I’ll do more laundry since it’s a never-ending job. Started listening to Cher this morning. It is her autobiography and is read by Cher herself. Love autobiographies read by the author.

Be kind to yourself and those around you, hug tight those you love most and smile, you make this world a beautiful place when you do! 🤗🫶❤️🫂 #GoodMorning #Positivity #Audiobooks #Autobiography

I've reread: The Automatic Detective by A Lee Martinez

Futuristic Noir Satire.

This is a very American story about a corrupt city of the future that exploits the poor and disenfranchised

It takes a stubborn ex-military robot on a temporary visa to take on the hard boiled detective role and expose the festering boil at the top of the pyramid.
