Case in point: same #lobbies that want to label #blueH2 as clean, use the #deregulation 🚌 #Omnibus laws to roll back hard-won climate protections, such as the EU’s 2024 Methane Regulation.

⚠️ This could open the door for continued imports of highly polluting #LNG from fracked gas in the US

Label #BlueH2 as 'clean’ means billions in new subsidies 4 #fossilfuel projects that exacerbate the #ClimateCrisis

⛔no to #False Solutions such as #CCS and #H2

#BlueHydrogen is fossil-based, with CO2 captured w/ #CCS

Research shows that #blueH2 total ghg footprint can be 20% or even 50% worse 4 the planet than burning gas directly.

Fossil fuel lobbyists have for years lobbied to label #blueH2 as low carbon or clean.

As this is Mastodon, let me pre-emptively point out that, yes, these scientists are aware that >90% of teaching Climate Neutrality is about emissions reductions, not removals.

The IPCC is also aware of this, as am I at the European Commission.

All these people already wrote reports on that, this one is about land sinks and technological removals.

EU Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change comes out with new report on carbon removals.

They recommend, i.a.

“Separate targets, stronger innovation support and environmental safeguards…

Integrating permanent removals into the EU carbon market over time for a cost-effective deployment…

Reversing the EU’s land sink decline”

Core day! Top of the Permian Broom Creek (bottom of photo) and unconformable contact to overlying confining unit, Opeche. Williston Basin, #NorthDakota. The Broom Creek is already receiving CO2 for carbon sequestration #CCS

None of the current #CCS prototypes actually works and takes out more #CarbonDioxide #CO2 than it uses in #emissions to remove it. That's the problem. Which is why it is counter-productive now, and even if it does improve, in future will be a very expensive way to reduce emissions. But lots of big #FossilFuel companies get massive #subsidies from us tax payers to do it.

£22bn for 'unproven' green tech could raise bills, MPs warn

I'm very dubious of #ccs, but I wonder if California homes could use excess solar to do small scale CCS. There was a paper a number of years ago about using air conditioning systems to do CCS. Then the homes could store it in tanks and use it in a fire extinguishing system. I'm not even sure the economics work there, but maybe?

Here we bloody go again. I gotta say, kudos to the fossil fuel industries for staying on message which flies in the face of all empirical evidence gathered so far on #CCS .

“Louise Morris from the Australian Marine Conservation Society said the organisation was seeking a “fast no” to the project from the department and responsible minister.

“This proposal for carbon dumping is high cost and high risk,” she said.

“Carbon pollution dumping in the ocean is a proven failure. Globally from other projects operating in the ocean – they have all failed to capture their projected emissions, have run radically over budget and we have seen leaks of CO2.”
