There is no magic solution for #archiving #digital #media. Statistically, #thumb #drives and #USB #sticks fail within few years, so will #SSD drives and #flash drives. Consumer grade #HDD may work few years longer but not much. Archive HDD drives will probably work a decade or so but eventually will fail. Creating new copies to constantly updated drives seems to be the best strategy but can suffer from #generation #loss due to physical damages, changing file formats etc. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/09/music-industrys-1990s-hard-drives-like-all-hdds-are-dying/
Shady oak tree lined roads in the hills and mountains on the east side of Napa Valley.

Playing with hard drives. Realizing it took just 45 years to go from a 0.000012 TB to 1TB drive. Forget about the access speed.

I have a large amount of #files and #folders spread across 3 external hard #drives. Some of the files are duplicates but I don't know which ones and where. Can anyone recommend some software that can easily find #duplicates across external hard drives?
That's why #HDD's are basically dying out on #Desktops and only survive in #Servers as a nieche between cheap #SATA-#SSD's and expensive #LTO #Tape #Drives as a middle-ground between "expesive drive & cheap storage" and "cheap drive & expensive storage" in "nearline" and "bulk storage" setups...
At least that's my experience as fulltime-sysadmin...

I live with my mother who is a #senior. She still #drives. However, there is one thing that #bothers me about her driving at a #strip mall. She #parks and goes to the first #store. But when she finishes and #exits that store and wants to go to another store nearby, instead of #walking there (Which is more #convenient she gets into her car and parks nearby at the second store. Does anyone else do this?
