𝐄𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧« She did not think she could bring herself to tell him. Many long seconds passed and her mouth refused to move. "To save your life…I gave up my own. They have allowed me to take care of you, and to make sure that you will live." She sniffled. "When you are well enough…I will go with them, and they shall do with me as they please." The breath rushed out of Xander’s lungs. His body began to shake violently. Suddenly, his back arched off the earthen floor and a long, blood-curdling scream ripped out of his body until blood welled in his mouth. Eirien sobbed bitterly. The enraged man thrashed his body to the side. His hands reached and pulled, one at a time, as he dragged himself toward the door. "No, Xander!" came Eirien’s cry. She pulled at him in an attempt to keep him away from the door and away from them, but in a flash, Pelior loomed in the doorway. His eyes read the situation quickly and with too much ease he snatched up Eirien. "No," she screamed, "Noooo!" "That's enough," Pelior said decisively in an unfeeling way. He began carrying the squirming and kicking woman toward the forest. "Xander!" The gaunt man with blood rolling down his chin growled and yelled. Pelior adjusted Eirien in his grasp; he turned her around to face him and slung her over his shoulder as if she were a mere pelt. 𝐄𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧« A gasp caught in her throat as another arrow landed, this time in the ground just a few feet beside her. “I suggest you stop unless you want to see more hunters.” She swiveled her body toward the male’s voice and stared—wide-eyed—at a figure high up in a tree. Eirien stood defensively, ready to break into a sprint at any moment. The man in the tree began to climb down; he would hang from a limb with one hand—his bow clutched in the other—and would drop to the branch below it. He moved rather unhurriedly in his descent. To Eirien it felt like an eternity. As his feet hit the ground the human lifted his head to look at her. It had been a long time since Eirien had been so close to another being. “…What do you want?” she asked reluctantly as the man merely stood there. The stranger’s face took on a hint of a smile, “I don’t want anything from you. Unless you’re offering something interesting.” His smile faded, “I’m simply trying to prevent any unnecessary bloodshed. And a great number of humans seeking blood are wandering this part of the woods. Seeing as you are an elf, I imagine you would not like to cross paths with them.” The relatively tall, lean human bent down and ran his fingers across the earth. He filtered soil and some leaves through his grasp as if inspecting it. The stranger seemed rather unbothered by Eirien’s presence. “Be on your way, then,” he said as he gradually returned to his full height. “Go in a different direction. Or…don’t. 𝐄𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧Hello! My name is Eirien 🌷 (Pronounced like ‘alien’ 🛸 but with an ‘r’ instead of an ‘l’!) I have written a book called 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐫 which is to be published soon! I have never written a book before, and I still am not sure if I would call myself a writer 😅 Though, I am not sure why not… Perhaps because I feel as though I need to be prolific & produce many books before that title is earned. I know that is silly! Anyhow, I love animals, nature, music, pies, and showing kindness 🐦‍⬛🦋🪻🌈☀️🎶💖🥧 I very much enjoy chatting with people, though I do admit that these days it is getting rather hard to keep up 🫣 Nevertheless, I hope you know that you are important and valuable, and there is no such thing as an insignificant person in my eyes 🖤 I have two very big announcements coming this year (the first to come next week! 🤭), and at times—as I think about these big projects—it is hard to believe I have come this far!
