Daniel FischerI think this <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/hoverfly" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#hoverfly</a> which I just met on our balcony in Bochum, Germany, is an Eristalis tenax, the common drone fly (or at least an <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/Eristalis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Eristalis</a> sp.) - the pattern on the abdomen of this "most widely distributed syrphid species in the world" (Wikipedia) can vary significantly.
