This behaviour makes 0 sense - a middle aged woman in East #London got #fined £1000 for #flytipping in her own street! She was given a warning, a chance to remove the #rubbish (a small amount which would easily fit in recycling containers and normal rubbish collection) *and* the Council will collect some bigger stuff for free, yet decided to be stubborn and ended up in Court

My London · Woman caught flytipping just metres from her homeShe was slapped with a hefty fine

A #mining company has been #fined close to $221,000 for almost 30 instances of discharging waste into the #environment without authorization in southeastern #BritishColumbia.

On Aug. 8, the #BCMinistryOfEnvironment handed #TeckCoal Ltd. — now operating as #ElkValleyResources — two administrative #penalties based on #WasteDisposal issues over two years at its Elkview operations near #SparwoodBC.

This is not the first time the Elkview #coal mining operations have been penalized for #unauthorized waste disposals. Two years ago, Teck Coal received a penalty of close to $200,000 for several discharges in 2020.

Teck Coal has faced tens of millions of dollars in fines for #contaminating #waterways in B.C. over the years.

It is also now dealing with allegations of dumping harmful substances into waters frequented by fish in the province's southeastern region. #EnvironmentCanada laid five charges against the company in July, and they have not been tested in court.

A court hearing in that matter is scheduled for Oct. 10.

You can be #fined for running your #car #engine to clear the #windscreen. I understand the #emission implications. How do you defog? I wipe the inside of the #glass but it has #fogged again before I turn the #ignition. I won't #drive with a #foggy view, anyway it isn't #legal. #Rules are made but no practical alternatives are offered. Like limiting old #cars but not improving #publictransport. #Affordable #EnvironmentallyFriendly solutions are needed or change can't happen.
