Food Adventures continue!

When we started this adventure, I only intended to do one dish per country. Then the suggestion was to do a meal and a dessert! Making up the countries that had only one dish slowly. Australia’s dish was a pavlova so had to go back and make a main. Here we have chicken parma Aussie style, served with home fries and a radicchio salad. This was tasty! I am looking forward to leftovers later!

Food adventures! Honourable mention!

I am trying to make up some of the desserts from the first eighteen countries. This was meant to be almond and cardamom brittle from Afghanistan but I had the brittle going before I realized that I was out of almonds!! I figured it would be a good practice run anyway so I used the pecans I had. I will admit that it was an absolute pain to make - recipe said it would take 15 minutes to get to 300F and it took 40! But so good! I am in my cardamom era now!

Dessert edition! We are nineteen countries into our 196-country around the world adventure and one of my fellow travellers suggested that we should do desserts too! Adventure accepted! I have to catch up on eighteen desserts for the previous countries (although some I made desserts for and I will have to do a savoury dish)!

Benin is represented by bananas in orange sauce served over ice cream. So good! Simplest dessert ever! I didn't make the ice cream though and used store bought. This was an auspicious start to the dessert adventure!

Angola is represented by Cachupa! Very delicious and perfect for a cloudy day. It took a little longer to pull off as sourcing ingredients required a bit of research to locate. I am enjoying expanding my knowledge of local supermarkets. Hominy required a couple of stops to locate but I am so glad i found it for this recipe. I had never cooked with it before and picked up enough to experiment with - so good! This recipe luckily yielded lots of leftovers! Looking forward to lunch tomorrow.

Up next: Antigua and Barbuda!

Algeria is the third country on the list and is represented by a lamb tagine. Tagine is both the name of the cooking vessel and the stew. This was my first time cooking in a tagine and I loved it! Everything was cooked to perfection! So delicious! I am enjoying reading about all the influences on the cuisine of each country!

Andorra is up next!

And we're off on our food adventure!

One dish from each country, starting in Afghanistan with Kabuli Pulao with lamb. Even though it was my first time making it, everyone enjoyed it! Will have again! The garlic yogurt sauce and Afghan green sauces were amazing. Luckily lots of everything left over! Also lots of char masala left over too! Looking forward to enjoying more of these flavours. Served with fresh mint tea!

Around the world in 196 meals!
