Brian Rogers<p>One of my teen OSR players just made the most audacious move: several spots in the opening part of the dungeon I marked “X coins worth of adventuring gear” and let the players figure out what they needed to be there - they are in a very small town and there are a lot of things that wouldn’t otherwise be logically available. </p><p>The PCs found one such cache on 3 dead adventurers after burning out a giant crab spider nest, and in so doing destroyed 3 spell books….</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/TTRPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TTRPG</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/DnD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DnD</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a> <br />1/X</p>
Brian Rogers<p>We are two weeks into the summer games at the library, and this week two kids from the 13th Age game made it - but were are using Knave. </p><p>The degree to which one 13th age kid did not like the reduction in crunchy bits was amazing to me. I was also surprised that the two kids from my 13th Age game who are perpetually a loggerheads there closed ranks against the 3 kids from the 5E group that I haven&#39;t been running (and isn&#39;t happening over summer break). </p><p>1/x<br /><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/TTRPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TTRPG</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/DnD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DnD</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a></p>
Brian Rogers<p>Had the last session of one library game for the school year and am scrambling to find one more game day to get to a good ending before two of the kids leave for college after 2 years of play. The game will go on without them next year but not having Onyx the centaur fighter/wizard and Rob Banks “my career is in my name” along will be a loss. </p><p>The other groups last game is tomorrow and that is a short “we need to make more bosh as we are all 150 xp from level”</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/TTRPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TTRPG</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a> <br />1/x</p>
Brian Rogers<p>In today’s jokes only for me, the PCs in the library game are in a religious war between the city’s initial genus loci and the new god the Count converted to. They made an alliance of desperation with the prince to get access to the Count to try to produce a miracle that will restore his faith in the old god and stop the city from being torn apart.</p><p>The prince gets them the garrison, points, and intones “Yonda lies the castle of my foddah”.</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/TTRPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TTRPG</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/DnD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DnD</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/TonyCurtis" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TonyCurtis</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a></p>
Brian Rogers<p>In a decision to de-Google and de-Amazon myself I&#39;ve started moving things from Blogger and Goodreads. This means a new Dreamwidth account for gaming posts - including this anecdote on where things are with the House in the Frozen Lands that I started prepping in summer 2023.</p><p><a href="https://subplotkudzu.dreamwidth.org/171827.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">subplotkudzu.dreamwidth.org/17</span><span class="invisible">1827.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/13thAge" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>13thAge</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/THitFL" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>THitFL</span></a></p>
Brian Rogers<p>Last nights game with the library kids involved an abandoned stone temple (with buried treasure inside) now full of an enormous nest of white-faced hornets. The PCs made use of their hatchet blessed by the god of the hearth that makes any wood cut by burn easily, and potion of fire resistance, and frayed rope to craft the fighter wicker man armor so that he could immolate himself and walk through the temple while driving out the hornets. </p><p>It _mostly_ worked </p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ttrpg</span></a></p>
Brian Rogers<p>One kid in my _13th Age_ game at the library was doing some Chibi doodling and produced this lineup of the PCs. Not sure why their sisters flaming sword wielding cleric ended up with a staff… but I have to admit it’s a cool looking staff <br />Onyx, the only centaur in the emperors guard<br />Numina,’ acolyte of the Cloaked Healer (Prometheus)<br />Robert “Rob” Banks, does what it says on the tin<br />Alire, part of the Greens living wards <br />Sol, the Diabolists adopted daughter</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/13thAge" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>13thAge</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a></p>

Brian Rogers<p>This week was the second attempt at the Knave 2e game at the library - originally 3 players but one has a conflict so now 2, and 2 weeks ago it was announced day before so none of the kids had it scheduled - and only half the players (ok, 1 player) showed up. </p><p>And it was GREAT. Player X started with saying he had played 5e and does this game allow Earth Gensaii Barbarians but quickly understood Knave’s stripped down classless, no defined races structure…</p><p>1/x<br /><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/Knave" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Knave</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/OSR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OSR</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/TTRPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TTRPG</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a></p>

Brian Rogers<p>NO KILL LIKE OVERKILL<br />the PCs were fighting various Shades in 13th Age and the Bloody Shades have a power where when one of them falls one of their stronger allies gets +2d6 HP. One of those stronger allies was at 1 HP and got 2 more, leaping from near death to attack the party centaur fighter/wizard</p><p>Who cast Shield to block him and critted with a bastard sword. But the Cleric had already activated Strength domain so all crits were x3. 9d8+12 damage. 37 points. Bedlam</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/13thAge" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>13thAge</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a></p>
Brian Rogers<p>Spent the day running the first of two summer game days before my daughter and her friends head off to college. This week marks 5 years of this campaign with their PCs at 7th near 8th level. It was a joy today to have them call back to and casually reference events from the last five years - old victories, losses, recapitulating plot points, advancing arcs - as they travel through their vast and expanding universe….</p><p>Seriously game with your kids. </p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/13thAge" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>13thAge</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ttrpg</span></a></p>
Jasper Nicolaisen<p>"Hey, the kids liked your weird roleplay stuff so much. Can you do it every Wednesday for second term?" "Sure, why not." Today 21 kids from 6 to 9 years of age show up. Me: "Whoa, we're a lot today. Can we make this work?" Kids *team up in groups of 4+ per character, find a strange island on the back of a giant turtle, learn the inhabitants' language*. Me "Do you want me to rotate you, so that we have less players per session?" "No, team play is fun." <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/pnpde" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pnpde</span></a> <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/Mausritter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mausritter</span></a> <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/gamingwithkids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamingwithkids</span></a></p>
Jasper Nicolaisen<p>What I keep seeing in <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/gamingwithkids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamingwithkids</span></a> is that play at the party level gets old quickly. Literally every group of 8-13 year olds I played <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> with (lots, cause work) wanted to play at admin level soon: manage a town, command troops, raise taxes, establish trade routes, build stuff, invented the steam machine (yes, every time). Games rarely provide even the most basic info necessary to pull that off (no. of inhabitants, soldiers, money...) and I think they are losing customers over it. <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/pnpde" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pnpde</span></a></p>
Brian Rogers<p>Gearing up for the first Gamma World game with the library kids. Our airship captain octopus explorer and her crew will be taking their first stab at the standing towers of New Orc of the coast... High risk, high reward as the glowing force spheres protecting the top of the spires are starting to flicker, perhaps offering entry...</p><p>But also summoning Blaashes at night with their glow...</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GammaWorld" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GammaWorld</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/TTRPG" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TTRPG</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/GamingWithKids" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GamingWithKids</span></a></p>

Trevor - The Vitruvian Meeple<p>Not a bad little Tiny Town, if I do say so myself. </p><p>Final score 31-28, but 20 of the child&#39;s 28 came from the *5 TAVERNS* in their town.
