Rob Galpin<p>Cherry tree I guerrilla-planted outside the allotments nearly ten years ago, just coming into blossom. I don't think there's much to beat seeing a tree you planted as a little whip reach maturity<br><a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/guerrilagardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>guerrilagardening</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/guerrillaarboring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>guerrillaarboring</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/Treeplanting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Treeplanting</span></a></p>

Tinker ☀️<p>Went out tonight with a guerrilla arborist and planted pawpaw seeds along various waterways!</p><p>Pawpaws are a local native deciduous fruit bearing tree. (<a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asimina_triloba" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asimin</span><span class="invisible">a_triloba</span></a>) Not to be confused with papaya (also called pawpaws by some). These are green skinned fruits with yellow fruit inside. They taste kind of like sweet sticky melons with a hint of avocado? They taste amazing. </p><p>Their seeds are quite large and they require a period of freezing over winter so they'll germinate in spring. </p><p>This guerrilla arborist harvested seeds from last year, put them in a baggy with some sawdust and a little bit of water and chilled them in the fridge over the winter. We planted them today. </p><p>They'll sprout in about six months and start producing fruit in about six years.</p><p>I intend to harvest a lot of seeds this year and begin planting in earnest next year. </p><p>We're building out the local food forests. </p><p>Folks should eat for free.</p><p>What native fruit bearing or food producing plants and trees are in your area?</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/solarPunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>solarPunk</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/guerrilaGardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>guerrilaGardening</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/guerrillaArboring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>guerrillaArboring</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/foodForest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>foodForest</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/mutualAid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mutualAid</span></a></p>
The Chatty Gardener<p>On the blog: I've been learning about guerrilla gardening with a new book by Ellen Mills. It's a handbook for those wanting to transform neglected public spaces with plants.</p><p>Read about it here: <a href="https://thechattygardener.com/book-reviews/review-get-guerrilla-gardening/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">thechattygardener.com/book-rev</span><span class="invisible">iews/review-get-guerrilla-gardening/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/GuerrilaGardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GuerrilaGardening</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/GardeningBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GardeningBooks</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/BookReview" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BookReview</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/blog" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blog</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/BlogPost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlogPost</span></a></p>
