These things are TRUE for every #HexIsland:
- Each hex spans 6 miles.
- The basic geography of every HexIsland is similar, but climate and other details may vary.
- Every HexIsland is unique - yours could be a tropical lost world teeming with dinosaurs, a low-fantasy Iron Age milieu, or a White Lotus-style resort hiding dark secrets.
- Yet ALL HexIslands are, at least theoretically, connected - whether by hidden (?) portals or other mysterious means. 2/n

The new clans are both more gameable - presenting motivations, needs, wants - and more humanising. They're still deeply weird; the difference is that the weirdness is compatible with them being real people that the PCs can gain some understanding of.

There are still plenty of creatures filling the monstrous/twisted human role (scumboggles, candlethieves), but the humans with an actual society are now presented as fully human, rather than subhuman.

(comparing Fever Swamp editions 🧵)

A misgiving I had with the original was the rascist vibe towards the locals. This is (IMO as a white British man) better handled in the new edition.

The previous "tribe" table presented traits that played into stereotypes (pygmies, cannibals) and didn't given any insight into their internal lives - they were inscrutable and monstrous.

I'm participating in a centered around filling a map based on Antarctica. I'm unofficially calling it , haha.

If you're interested, check it out here: itch.io/jam/antarctica-jam.

Will be sharing my entries for each hex I've reserved here as well, and on my blog.

itch.ioAntarctic Adventure JamA game jam from 2025-02-12 to 2026-02-28 hosted by idraluna-archives. Let's fill The Great Antarctic Hexcrawl map with TTRPG adventures! Rules Gotta use the Antarctica map in some way. No bigots, nazis, transphobes, etc...

A quick adventuring region: THE CRADLE. A tiny pocket of hospitable soil protected from the badlands by a mighty mountain range.

The birthplace of humanity, before the sky elves' invasion forced them to flee. Now humans are back to rebuild their ancestral homeland. Ruined, elven supertechnology dots the land. A toxic wound in the earth stretches interminably downward. Twisted jungle men haunt the northeast hills.
