I wanted to photograph some icebergs so that I could later brag about what I saw.
I wanted to capture both beauty and sadness at the same time.
In a way, it was like seeing a dinosaur in real time.

A place like this never gets old.

A piece of glacier ice, washed up onto the black sand of Fellsfjara near Jökulsárlón in Southeast Iceland. In the distance, the warm glow of sunrise illuminates high clouds and gives them a red tint. Long exposure gives the swirling water a dreamy appearance.

Visited an ice cave near Jökulsárlón. It is one of these activities were tourists are milked for money, but I did enjoy a few quiet moments.

It was magical, when snow started to fall through a hole in the ceiling

View into an ice cave. There is an upward opening in the center of the cave through which snow is falling. A rope is fastened to the right of the gravel path.

The dimly lit interior of an ice cave. The ground is covered in gravel (although there is ice below that), and the ceiling is blue ice.

Only faint light reaches into this part of the ice cave, reflecting of the green-blue ceiling.

Most images I see of Jokulsarlon are intimate iceberg shots. I really loved how this came out. I captured this to show the vastness of the lagoon. The kayakers really give scale to this image!
