North: 66°03′N, Húsavik, Iceland
East: 178°1′4″E, Gisborne, New Zealand
South: 45°52′27″S, Dunedin, New Zealand
West: 175°12′0″W, Nuku'alofa, Tonga

It was actually fun to review all those. I was surprised to see NZ on there twice. I had thought Tasmania might be farther south. Also, I was expecting Tonga to be the farthest east I had been, not the farthest west.

A bit of advice…get rid of your latitude card. The support in handling ongoing illegal transactions is terrible and they keep taking the card off hold but still allow the same guys doing the illegal transactions to go through. Also you can’t contact them to get it fixed on a weekend. What a useless bunch of tossers. #latitude

I got a #DELL WD-19 docking station, Dell #Latitude 7440 laptop, 2 Dell monitors. Connected the dock to the laptop via USB-C, connected 1 monitor to the dock via USB-C, connected the 2 monitor to the 1 monitor via Display Port. When all screens sleep, 75% the time the standalones won't wake! Why?!

Life's a bit shit at the moment as I've been in a car crash which was not our driver's fault and am living on painkillers and muscle relaxants.

But after weeks and months I am finally, FINALLY at the right #latitude, free of clouds, and free of mountains to see C/2023 A3 #Tsuchinshan-#ATLAS. And just as I have my binoculars in the right spot, not knowing it's the right spot yet, a #meteorite streaks through my field of view.

Probably the first and last time in my life I see a meteorite at 10x.

What I could do instead of making breakfast?

I could be fixing Polish city names in the Python #Faker package. Apparently they've used the data from #latitude.io. The website aggregates data from random sources and it is full of errors: districts of Warsaw are listed as separate cities, some city names are randomly missing diacritics (and I'm not talking about being written entirely without diacritics — say, they have "Białołeka" instead of "Białołęka").

Yep, that's the kind of thing #Gentoo devs do in the morning.

So #Latitude was experimenting with stuff like this back in 2020 with #AIDungeon. I don't remember the details, but I remember they had a feature at some point that would have an AI try to summarize the story from before where the story-generating AI could see. They moved back to just having the player manually enter it at some point, but that shows that this technology isn't new, and has been deemed to not be worth it in the past.

The main issues I can see here are that having an AI analyze a ton of input and generate a textual summary creates a lot more room for hallucination: it doesn't know what any of this means, so it doesn't know what's actually important, or even how to lay that out in such a way that the main AI, ChatGPT, isn't going to have its own hallucinations from it.

I can definitely see it picking up that a user wants to be lied to, and telling GPT to lie. I can also see executives selling / using this AI generated user-info as if it's reliable.
