I am so proud to be shortlisted for this years @football_v_homophobia @fvhscot hero award and I would like to thank every single person that has nominated me. To quote Bill Shankly, some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.
For me personally football is life, it’s my sanctuary and love. It gave me hope and much needed positivity when I had been bullied out of school and I felt truly isolated and alone, a much needed light in the darkness. From watching @liverpoolfc play and getting to become a proud member of @kop_outs and represent them and my community at events to playing for @trukunitedfc and representing my community from the age of 14 and getting to show other trans kids like myself that we do belong in football, in sports and in society. These opportunities have paved the way to play in a girls football team and play in the women’s football league, again proving that trans kids can and should play. So for me to be shortlisted for this award as a trans kid is huge and I hope it proves to other trans kids that we belong and that trans kids will never walk alone #lgbtq #lgbtcommunity #lgbtqpride #lgbteens #trans #transgirl #transgender #transkidsmatter #transkidsbelong #transkidsdeservetoplaysports #transkidsdeservetothrive #football #footballvhomophobia #footballvtransphobia #footballforall #nofootballwithoutthet

Are you a LGBTQIA+ artist or writer local to the DMV, especially Northern Virginia? Are you 13 or older? NoVA Prism Center is looking for contributors for the second issue of our community zine, The Lantern! Also, WE HEARD YOU: We will be including works by teenage creators (Age 13+) in our Pride Month issue!

All works must somehow represent being LGBTQIA+ in the greater Washington, DC Metro Area (with preference for Northern VA). The rest is up to you! Submit your work to our Google Form at forms.gle/Cxnk7MaKYjDVn3Xu6

A note on compensation: We're working out a few wrinkles in how we compensate our contributors. While we cannot share details now, we at NoVA Prism Center vehemently believe that creative labor should be compensated, and we will keep in touch with accepted contributors about what this will look like for the second issue of The Lantern. We see you, and we know that exposure does not buy groceries. 🫶
