This beautiful display of noctilucent clouds called for a good foreground. I was frantically riding my bike, searching for something I could use, when I rode past this windmill. Using it as a silhouette was a no-brainer. I'm really happy with this result.

Cape Town city bowl at night. I was up on Table Mountain to take photos of batrun when I snapped this. Long exposure from a tripod. You can see quite a lot of noise artefacts as I had noise reduction on my 5D3 disabled to shoot without having to wait for image processing.

Only Ghosts in these Halls / Solo Fantasme in queste Sale for #monochromemonday

In the Archiginnasio the walls are covered in around 6000 heraldic arms. These arms commemorate past students, teachers and patrons of the university. Arms were added to the walls until the late 18th century. (The Archiginnasio was built in 1563 so we're taking about 200 years worth of people)
It got me thinking about all the people who come and go from the building, yet it remains.
The "ghosts" right now are those represented by the heraldry, but one day will be us. But it's a Monday morning so don't think about it too deeply okay!
This photo is a combination of a double exposure and a long exposure (because I have shaky hands and I really liked the people in one photo and the background in another so I tried to squish them together )
Do not look too closely as it's my first time trying this and it's a mess. Just squint and enjoy!

If you're using an ultra-wide angle lens and there's nothing interesting in the foreground at the beach, try slowing down your shutter speed (you may need an ND filter). This will allow you to capture the movement of the water, creating a dynamic and engaging foreground. Point Ronald, Victoria, Australia.

Rocky Beach

After days of wanting to go, yesterday evening I finally actually got the chance to go to the beach. I opted for Schoorl, one of my favourite beaches in the Netherlands. These rocks always offer a nice foreground. Using a long exposure, the retreating sea created a nice blanket of waves around them.

This is quite an old photo from a trip to Canada, visiting an old friend from my time studying abroad. It took a bit of convincing to get him out into the icy cold that morning — but with the faint glow of sunrise in the distance and the icy mist rolling off the falls in the foreground, it turned out to be one of my favorite shots. (Not sure my friend would say the same, though)
