I was thinking about how much fun it was to get mail as a kid. These days, it is all bills and Kafkaesque forms from the government, which gave me an idea.

What if there was some sort of inexpensive subscription service where you got a nice or fun letter in the snail-mail post each month? Maybe customised for you in some way. Perhaps also some postcards from random parts of the world.

Perhaps when you sign up for a year of nice mail, you could opt in to a postcard exchange. Opted-in people would get their postal address added to a handful of nice letters with a prompt to maybe send them a postcard. Thus, subscribers would get nice things by post from the service and also from other people who like sending cool local postcards.

For added niceness, opt-ed in people could get a birthday mention. Or put on the postcard part of all the letters.

Something like that anyway. There would have to be an opt-in component because I’d not be happy sharing my address otherwise.

The goal in privatizing the USPS is to make sending regular mail unaffordable to the point most communication occurs online, not in real life.

While the public recognizes mail is a service to the public that is not supposed to be for profiteering, the cheeto admin doesn't care that the costs of online services to the poor & elderly are far in excess of sending & receiving mail.

They just want to skim off as much as they can from people.

As mail’s fallen out of favor — the volume of mail handled by the service has almost halved since 2008 — USPS has become more dependent on its lucrative package business. Indeed, packages accounted for over 40% of its revenue last year, despite making up only 6% of total volumes.

Trying to gain ground in the package space by competing with big names like UPSUPS $111.45 (-0.01%), FedExFDX $243.92 (0.11%), and AmazonAMZN $201.31 (0.11%), the latter of which delivered over 9 billion parcels the same or next day alone last year, was always going to be tricky for USPS to deliver. Now, though, it’ll be someone else’s problem.

Da hosteurope.de in Sachen Mail scheinbar eine Zwangsumstellung seiner Kunden zu #MS365 macht, suchen einige verständlicherweise eine Alternative zu #hosteurope.
Ich persönlich kann allen mailbox.org wärmstens empfehlen. Bin dort mit der kompletten Familie seit einigen Jahren, mit mehreren Domains. Alles was man in Sachen Mails benötigt in sehr guten Händen.
