Jonathan Emmesedi<p>Serious thinkers about ethics and lives worth living should spend less time on the trolley problem and more on "Middlemarch".</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/Ethics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ethics</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Philosophy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Philosophy</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/MoralPhilosophy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MoralPhilosophy</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Literature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Literature</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/TrolleyProblem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TrolleyProblem</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Middlemarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Middlemarch</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/GeorgeEliot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GeorgeEliot</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Books</span></a> </p><p>Dr Lydgate and Rosamond</p><p><a href="https://victorianweb.org/authors/eliot/gallery/11.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">victorianweb.org/authors/eliot</span><span class="invisible">/gallery/11.html</span></a></p>
Derek Caelin is writing a book<p>Isn't it weird how your frame of mind impacts your enjoyment of a book?</p><p>Example: I have tried and failed many times to get into George Eliot's "Middlemarch". I always found it dry and incredibly slow paced. Where is the plot? It's so many words about nothing. </p><p>This time around, I finally get it. Listening to the audiobook (Narrator: Nadia May) helped. Middlemarch is a *comedy* and the humor is in absurdity of these human characters in responding to their situations.</p><p><a href="https://social.coop/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/middlemarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>middlemarch</span></a></p>
