The overwhelming majority of national forest acreage in New Mexico is affected. :-(

➖ Millions of acres of national forest are targeted for logging under an emergency order from the Trump administration (article)

➖ ➖ What’s the emergency? Climate change isn’t catastrophic enough yet?

➖ ➖ ➖ It’s so the US can build more vacant houses.

The Sitka spruce with swooping branches. The Western hemlock with roots fanned at its base. The Jeffrey pine whose fragrant bark smells of butterscotch and vanilla.

These trees owe their existence to the Northwest Forest Plan. But the plan that has defended these trees for the past 30 years could be warped to suddenly spell their demise.

The Forest Service is considering amending the plan to double or even triple the amount of commercial logging within 17 national forests.
