#CryptoCorruption:
"In an unprecedented abuse of presidential power, Donald #Trump is dismantling federal #cryptocurrency oversight while building a sprawling family #cryptoempire worth billions. Through #WorldLibertyFinancial… the Trump family is positioning to profit from facilitating cryptocurrency lending and trading. Through #TruthFi…and a series of #memecoins, #NFTs, and even a planned #cryptogame, the Trumps are converting political support directly into cash."

Hey remember #Cryptoland?

Skip to ~ 23:30 if you don’t need the island promo video breakdown. Although it *is* hilarious.

Things got… improper 😆

CW/TL;DW: The official Twitter account made an awful winky-face statement about the age of consent on the island aaand….. that was the end of that

They tried making a couple more promos about how the island and #NFTs will work but the damage has been done

@katrinakatrinka @digyoursoul @molly0xfff OFC, it has all the drawbacks of "self-custody cash, but digital"...

I just see #Monero as a better alternstive to an #AMEX, #VISA, #MasterCard or #PayPal!

And unlike Other #Cryptocurrencies it's free of #SmartContracts and #NFTs so not on the perpetual tire fire that is @web3isgreat ...

  • Not gonna claim it's better than #Euro banknotes, but unless you have a bank account in #SEPA where you can use #wero, it's the fastest way to do #CashlessPayments remotely/online...

@katrinakatrinka @digyoursoul OFC, take your time...

I just think Monero is the least worst #Crsptocurrency because it's not some #Shitcoin with artifical scarcity, long transaction times, high fees and #NFT garbage!

Given how much #PaymentProcessors like #PayPal can change and outside #SEPA there isn't a good & fast #WireTransfer system, it's growing in adoption.

  • Espechally since it's the closest to digital #cash!

Senator #KirstenGillibrand (D-NY) is basically a wholly owned subsidiary of #Coinbase, #a16z, and the rest of the US crypto industry (as this Op-Ed in CoinDesk makes abundantly clear).

Unfortunately she never got the memo about how the preferred nomenclature is now “#tokenization” and “RWAs” because “#Web3” just makes people think of monkey JPGs / #NFTs.

What’s really happening here is that Circle / Coinbase are trying to get the US Government to legislate #Tether out of their market. While I support this goal I don’t think legitimizing Circle’s #USDC - who are, if anything, worse about compliance than Tether - is good policy.

CoinDesk · Why We Need a Bipartisan Stablecoin Bill – GillibrandThe new Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act lays the groundwork for a new era of American exceptionalism, says Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, of New York.

💾 It took one plucky competitor to disintegrate the overinflated #AI bubble. Hope these losers all end up in the (also very successful) metaverse to cry and piss.

Hopefully the sunset of AI is near and we'll forget it as fast as we did with #NFTs.

"While the crypto world has been loudly all in for Trump, his memecoin stunt was a bridge too far for some. Crypto venture capitalist and enthusiastic Trump supporter Nic Carter, who was attending the ball when the token was launched, told Politico, “It’s absolutely preposterous that he would do this ... They’re plumbing new depths of idiocy with the memecoin launch.” He later told the AP, “Now, on the cusp of getting some liberalization of crypto regulations in this country, the main thing people are thinking about crypto is, ‘Oh, it’s just a casino for these meme coins’.” An influential crypto industry lawyer tweeted: “Trump dropping his own memecoin means he has the wrong people in his ear re crypto policy. I’m now getting very concerned about the Trump presidency.”6 Others expressed concern that the memecoin would make the whole industry look like a grift to outsiders who may be learning about it for the first time, and some joked that they missed former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler’s regulatory approach already.
(...)
In my view, the memecoin launch only adds to Trump’s long list of already very serious conflicts of interest. The two memecoins are in addition to multiple NFT projects by both Donald and Melania Trump, the World Liberty Financial project from which Trump earns a substantial percentage of the revenue, and Trump’s disclosed ETH holdings. There are also ethical issues around influence buying and the emoluments clause, and the president’s crypto tokens, NFT projects, and publicly disclosed wallet addresses are yet more avenues that those hoping to curry favor with the president could use to funnel money in his direction, as with his hotels and other business ventures during his first term in office."

"Late last month, an infamous 5-year-old artwork titled Comedian, which consists solely of one (1) banana attached to a gallery wall via a single strip of duct tape, was sold off by Sotheby’s for a whopping $6.2 million—up from the $1.5 million asking price it commanded pre-auction. (Cue the inevitable Arrested Development references.) The lucky new owner? Chinese cryptocurrency maven Justin Sun, who has since eaten the art.

On the surface, it’s a funny curiosity of a story that would normally take up just enough of the news cycle for viewers to jab their thumbs and mutter to one another, “Can you believe this shit?” But Justin Sun’s involvement here takes this beyond the realm of mere amusement and into something far more insidious: a yearslong saga of skimping on international law, funneling ill-gotten wealth and splurging ostentatiously, abusing employees, becoming the subject of government investigations, plagiarizing white papers, and sucking up to President-elect Donald Trump for the sake of rewiring American financial regulation as we know it. It’s a literal pay-for-play, with Sun announcing just one day after the banana stunt that he would invest $30 million in Trump’s crypto scheme, World Liberty Financial, and bail it out of financial insolvency, earning an advisory role with the firm in the process.

The banana is not just a sideshow distraction for Sun on this execrable journey; it is very much part and parcel of his drive for wealth and power, as evidenced by how vocally he compared Comedian to NFTs and blockchain entries while eating the thing. There are many reasons why Justin Sun is so notorious within the crypto world, even though he remained mostly unknown to the wider public before now. So let’s break down why this whole thing stinks … kinda like a rotting banana."

@eff

Yeah, that horse has bolted.

#NFTs were a fantastic vehicle for decentralised public registers, certificate records, shares, fraud prevention...

...but most folks (thanks to concentrated establishment propaganda) think NFTs==Crappy 8 bit images, and are equally as bad as #crypto

Meanwhile Governments around the world are working hard on #CBDC and "digital identity tokens" (#NFT).

Turns out you can fool most of the people most of the time.

@sj @florenciocano #NotLegalAdvice but I still think @senficon is correct in his analysis because #copyright is way more stringent than say #patents.

Don't get me wrong, I think wannabe "#AI" is still bad as in #WastefulComputing of the #Shitcoin kind (i.e. #Bitcoin) and that the very few useful applications are overshadowed by #grifters wanting to #scam #VC's off their money.

  • So yeah, #CryptoBros ruined #Blockchain and #NFTs because before that their "virtue-signalling" that they are literally "horny for money" burned that tech for the very few use-cases where it could've been an option, and are now busy with the next #DumpsterFire aka. "AI"...
