OBS project threatens Fedora with legal action because the 3rd-party OBS Studio package in the Fedora Flatpak repo is broken, poorly maintained, users report issues to OBS instead of Fedora project because they think it's the official package, the Fedora project refused to do anything about it:

(This whole software distribution thing is pretty broken on Linux in general, it isn't just an issue the OBS Flatpak on Fedora. There should be some indication for the users if a package isn't maintained by the original devs, e.g. including "unofficial" in the package name. Flathub's approach to verify package maintainers is also pretty good approach. Of course this would be hard to implement in the whole Linux platform because of its fragmented nature but would be nice towards the devs of programs if they wouldn't need to deal with packaging issues they can do nothing about.)

Yesterday I was having an issue with my OBS-Studio recordings. The audio was choppy. Eventually, I determined it was the audio input I selected. Pulse did not work, but alsa did work fine.

My issue didn't have anything to do with my installation. Either the Flatpack or APT installation were fine. (Or snap, if I'd gotten that far in my troubleshooting)

Anyone got experience with #OBSStudio?

Mostly setup but would like to be able to either blur or replace my webcam background behind me with an image of my choosing.

Having a quick search every guide seems to tell me to install a third party plugin and I’ve seen comments about them tanking the FPS

Anyone have/had issues with a combination of either Bluefin/Fedora, OBS Studio and/or Steam and managed to solve it.

Since I upgraded to Bluefin 41, I've been unable to use OBS' Game Capture mode at all. I've done lots of tinkering with OBS and also Steam but nothing seems to be able to fix it.

Steam/Proton logs don't seem to report anything of use/interesting at all.

In 41 I can use the Screen Capture option, however if I try to capture the specific application I get some weird 200% zoom view of it that I can't seem to fix.

Capturing the monitor works but the output jittery and generally not very good.

I was running the :latest image, so I tried switching back to :stable. Also no dice.

As a last ditch effort I've switched back to :gts (aka Fedora 40). I didn't particularly want to do this because I like having the latest and greatest of everything.

Game Capture interestingly still doesn't work. This makes me wonder if it's a Steam change (maybe around their game capture functionality) that broke it.

On the other hand, capturing the application via PipeWire Screen Capture now works as expected, with none (or at least a lot less) of the stuttering the monitor capture was having.

I'm concerned that if (now or some ways into the future) that if I want to/have to switch to Fedora 41 that I'm going to lose access to decent game recording again.

Any ideas from the crowd?
