Pete Hegseth: Frauenfeindlich, sexistisch, inkompetent

1. Allgemeine Eignung

Pete Hegseth gilt unter Kritikern als der schlechteste Verteidigungsminister aller Zeiten. Ihm fehlt jede ernsthafte Führungserfahrung im Regierungs- oder Militärbereich, seine Ernennung war rein politisch motiviert. Für zusätzlichen Skandal sorgte er, als er geheime militärische Angriffspläne über WhatsApp an Dritte weiterleitete – ein gravierender Bruch von Sicherheitsprotokollen, der die Einsatzsicherheit gefährdete.

2. Frauenrollen und Wahlrecht

Hegseth lehnt Frauen in Kampfrollen strikt ab und teilte ein Video eines radikalen Pastors, der die Abschaffung des Frauenwahlrechts fordert – also die Rücknahme der 19. Verfassungsänderung von 1920.

3. Missbrauchsvorwürfe gegen Frauen
• 2017: Polizeibericht über sexuellen Übergriff, Hegseth bestreitet Vorwürfe.
• Veteranenorganisationen: Ehemalige Mitarbeiterinnen berichten von sexueller Belästigung und toxischem Umfeld.
• 2018: Mutter beschuldigte ihn in E-Mail, „viele Frauen“ missbraucht zu haben.

Content note: S✨xual harassement

I never wanted to announce my engagement nor did I want to ever marry someone. Though, during my bikepacking trip from Germany to Turkey I had to point out several times that I am engaged.

I met many kind people who helped me with food, water, knowledge, encouraging words, and shelter. But also I met people who were nice to me because they covertly wanted to have s✨x. All of them were men. Once they invited me for dinner or gave me a hitchhike, they started telling me that I was beautiful, pretty or sweet and asked whether I was married, whether I wanted to stay at their home or hotel etc. I persistently declined & repeatedly told them that I was engaged.

None of them physically attacked me. But some crossed my limits by touching my shoulders, hugging me, or giving me kisses on my cheek. Sometimes I was too weak to fight off the harassments. E.g. after I just climbed 2000 meters in the Balkans. I was exhausted. My body could barely move anymore. Nor my mind.

It is not about you not being able to fend off their assaults or only about s✨xual harassment in particular. It’s about men not respecting boundaries. For example, one men drank alcohol while he was driving, even though I told him not to. We ended up in a police control. Luckily we didn’t have any accident and the Turkish police was only interested in harder drugs. But it could have turned out differently.

Violence against women, non-binary, trans-, inter- and agender folks is commited everywhere on this planet. In some countries more often than in others. But it‘s something present everywhere you go. Regarding the perpetrator it is not primarily about religion. Nor about ethnic affiliation/ascription. And never it is about skin color. It‘s about men. Men harassing, intimidating, hurting, and even murdering non-male persons because patriarchy taught them that they were superior.

They are not.

There's a correlation between sexual #misconduct accusations and a drop in citations for the scholars accused, while that's not the case for fraudsters. In both cases there is a drop in publications, and the puzzling thing is that - looking at the raw data in the original paper doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0 - the trend seems to begin before the accusations emerge. It raises the question of in which direction does the causality go.
