“In this study, [they] model spatiotemporal heterogeneity and incorporate it into optimizing the location of substations. The optimized substation placement ensures electrical service coverage for over 99% of the area during peak power usage seasons, compared to the current coverage of 72%...”

Hmmm...not sure about the future of the worlds largest proposed pumped hydro battery on a desert continent that is suffering forecasts for multi-decade droughts...

Perhaps its wiser to develop hydrobatteries at abandoned open pit minesites, not on agricultural land. Then you might be able to use saltwater.

Renewable energy and Green/Ecofriendly energy aren't the same thing.

Starting a new summer series over at The Rural Review highlighting law student work from the last year. Here's the first post: a short digest highlight some recent Berkeley labs work on the justice implications of renewable energy siting in rural America, written by one of my own fabulous students, Ryan McKeever (rising 3L at UNL, incoming FERC intern): ruralreconcile.org/ruralreview

The Rural Reconciliation ProjectO’Shaughnessy et al.: Energy Justice Implications of Renewable Energy Project Siting — The Rural Reconciliation ProjectThis digest summarizes new research by Eric O’Shaughnessy and colleagues on energy justice implications of renewable energy project siting as they affect rural communities.
