Deserts one day, high mountain snowshoeing the next. Today we have been above Capileira on our snowshoes. The snowshoeing is incredible at the moment, even though we had threatening storm clouds around it didn't start snowing until we had reached the cars on our return.

At the SW end of the Sierra Nevada, 2400 meters above the valley floor rises the Cerro de Caballo (3009m).

Today we saw it's summit for the first time in over a week. The snowshoeing, ski touring and mountaineering opportunities will be amazing once the snows have consolidated. Looks like at least another week of unsettled weather to come first.

Snowshoeing with my friends up a very steep hill. I had my jacket tied to my waterpack and it somehow got loose and fell off at the top on the mountain. I realized this when we were at the bottom. I was ready to abandon the jacket, but my friends refused because it was a brand new jacket and so I turned back and ran up that hill so my friends didn’t have to climb it all the way again. Everyone I passed on the trail said, “YOU’RE the jacket person? We saw it, it’s still there.” Haha everyone was so nice and no one took the jacket. I burned so many calories that day.

I took this photo last month at the summit of Little Haystack Mountain, White Mountains, New Hampshire. I had just spent five hours snowshoeing from the base of the mountain to this summit. The mountains seen off in the distance are ones I’ve also hiked in, including Mt Washington the one that is snow-covered and in line with the cairn.

Last night I watched the stars twinkle in the cold and listened to the wind running in the treetops and woke up this morning to a glorious sunrise in Indian heaven wilderness. My tracks were the only sign of humans for miles.

This was my view earlier this week as I began my descent down the mountain and dropped below the tree line. It was much steeper than the pic shows— needed to proceed carefully on my snowshoes. Beauty was abound when I snowshoed up a mountain earlier this week. While the views at the summit of nearby mountain peaks/valleys were beautiful, so were the small features at my feet. Check out the rime ice that formed on the boulders. This ice forms in windy fog and points into the wind as it is forming. #ice #mountains #lichen

Here is one of the picturesque treats I experienced on my way up to the summit of the mountain yesterday. A gorgeous section of frozen #waterfalls. Most of the 80 feet (24m) tall #waterfall was covered with snow, but this section was not covered, exposing its beauty. #WaterfallWednesday #mountains #hiking
