The Submariners' Memorial in Elder Park in Glasgow. It's principally dedicated to the 32 people who died when the submarine K13 sank during sea trials in the Gare Loch in 1917, including 6 employees from the nearby Fairfield Shipyard where it had been built. Miraculously, 48 of the people who were on board at the time were successfully rescued after some 60 hours trapped at the bottom of the sea.

#Arctic #warming could pose a threat to America’s #security too: #Alaska may have new vulnerabilities to both #China & #Russia; changes in #ocean salinity & temp might interfere w/ #submarine detection systems; extremes of climate change, including #permafrost thaw in Russia, may drive #economic #instability, social #unrest, & territorial claims. [#Trump #Intelligence Agencies excluded #ClimateChange from the annual #ThreatAssessment report for the first time in decades — too *woke*]

“The chief of the defence force, Adm #DavidJohnston, said this week that it was possible that the three ships are accompanied by an undetected #NuclearSubmarine.

‘I don’t know whether there is a #submarine with them. It is possible: task groups occasionally do deploy with submarines, but not always. I can’t be definitive on whether that’s the case,’”
