I wish the #trans community got more love than it does. We deserve it.
Have been off of Mastodon for a bit.
Life's been going well. I'm rebounding from breakups better, I'm liking how my body is developing more-and-more, am growing more comfortable than ever as a sexual being, and recently hit 20 months of #HRT . I also have backups in case shit truly hits the fan.
I'm prepared to protest and raise hell when I can do so safely and #transition peacefully no matter what. Give me E or give me death!
I'm also fully-prepared to seek asylum if any country opens it for #trans peeps like me.
I've also determined that surgeries are in my future, either in this country or wherever I end up seeking asylum in (which country opens the border first).

Court Halts Policy Erasing ‘X’ Gender Marker on Passports

Good info about the #UK Supreme Court ruling on #trans rights. From: facebook.com/piperdawes/posts/…
OK so most of the reaction from the Supreme Court ruling has been based on the media coverage and commentary from gender critical feminists. Unfortunately that has been blown way out of proportion. I reacted to the headlines as much as anyone else so it's time for me to own up to that and correct a few things. Please share this to prevent misinformation.
It's still bad, and will likely be the catylist for new anti trans policies but these are the facts as they currently stand.
Myth 1: The court said trans women aren’t women
False. The court didn’t define what a woman is in everyday life. It only clarified how the word “sex” is used in one specific part of the Equality Act 2010 - that’s it.
Myth 2: Trans women no longer have legal protection as women
Wrong. Trans women are still protected from discrimination under UK law - both as women and as people who have changed gender.
Myth 3: The ruling bans trans women from women-only spaces
Nope. Trans women can still access women’s spaces. The law allows for rare exceptions (like in some women’s shelters), but this has always been the case - nothing changed in this ruling.
What the Court Actually Said:
It’s not the court’s job to define gender or settle public debates on sex and gender.
The ruling only clarified that when the Equality Act talks about “sex” in discrimination cases, it means biological sex.
It also confirmed that trans people are still fully protected under the Equality Act - including protections against gender reassignment discrimination.
What’s the Real Impact?
This ruling doesn’t remove rights. The fear and confusion come from how media outlets and anti-trans voices twist the facts. The law still protects trans people.
I still have the right to:
Live as a woman.
Be called by my name and pronouns.
Access general public services like shops, restaurants, and public transport without discrimination.
Trans peoples' gender reassignment status is still protected under the Equality Act 2010, so it’s still unlawful to treat us unfairly because we're trans.
There is more scrutiny in so-called "Single-sex spaces".
This is where the biggest impact might be felt:
Organisations running single-sex services (like women's refuges, hospital wards, changing rooms) now have stronger legal backing if they choose to exclude trans women, even those with a Gender Recognition Certificate.
They can only do this if the exclusion is proportionate and serves a legitimate aim (e.g. safety, privacy).
But there’s no automatic ban - exclusions must still be justified on a case-by-case basis.
This might lead to:
More refusals or “gatekeeping” from some services.
Confusion or inconsistency between organisations unsure how to apply the ruling.
Potential increase in stigma or hostility in public debates, even though the law hasn’t stripped away your rights.
Legal and employment issues
Trans people arw still protected against discrimination at work.
However, legal disputes based on “sex” alone (rather than gender reassignment) may now define us as our birth sex, which could complicate some discrimination cases.
Social and emotional impact (here's the bit I'm most concerned about):
The ruling is already, and predictably, adding more fuel to anti-trans narratives, which has increased public hostility or misinformation.
Some organisations are already using the ruling to limit access or create more barriers, even if those limits aren’t justified.
For instance, following the UK Supreme Court's April 2025 ruling that defines "sex" in the Equality Act as biological sex, the government is expected to issue updated guidance on how this affects hospital ward policies.
Currently, NHS guidance allows transgender patients to be accommodated in single-sex wards that align with their gender identity. However, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has indicated that this policy must change to reflect the court's decision. The EHRC is working on updated guidance to ensure compliance with the new legal interpretation.
As a result, NHS trusts are anticipated to revise their policies, potentially leading to once the government's official guidance is released.
In short:
We’re still protected. We’re still valid.
But this ruling may increase challenges in accessing women-only services and may embolden those who want to exclude or silence trans people. The practical impact will depend on how organisations, media, and politicians choose to interpret and apply the decision.
What can you do to help?
If you're an ally, speak up. Share facts. Correct the myths. Don’t let misinformation win.
Bottom line:
Trans women are women. UK law still sees and protects them that way.

But the point isn`t penises! People who have Klinefelters syndrome have penises, a female body shape and a genome that is XXY. People who have Turners syndrome have a vulva and a male body shape and a genome that is XO. Who is female and who is male? The person who feels that they are female is a woman and the person who feels that they are male is a man. It is not difficult; it is simply a case of acknowledging of a person`s lived experience. Legal definition be damned!
