How was your Halloween?
We had a lovely day yesterday. The weather was dry and cool. We sat outside drinking wine and tea as the trick-or-treaters came by in their colorful costumes. We encouraged them to take lots of candy from the bowls; some gladly obliged, some took only one piece. They started arriving just after sundown and all was quiet by 8:45. We are now left with way too much candy. The landfill rats will soon be be living the sugar high life.
Our latest character, Chesty {TheDefinitelyNotAMimic} joined other Players of the Patchwork to pass out candy to costumed Trick-or-Treaters last night for Hallowe'en!

1) Kiddo did not yet totally age out of going out to #trickortreat with friends (some of whom had maybe never gone before?). Fun talking with one of the other parents.
2) #Tacos afterwards!
3) #Pilot #VanishingPoint #fountainpen arrived! Fun getting to know it. (Each fountain pen has quirks - part of the joy!) It is a little scritchy, but I like the line quality. Ingenious retractor design choices.

I asked.
OK I don't know what it is, but out of the ~40 kids that have come by so far for #Halloween, THREE decided to walk past me or my spouse, INTO OUR HOUSE??
All three were with an adult who did call them back, but what is happening?? We have never had this before, ever, and then three kids the same night??
Like with one of them, I was going to put a candy bar into their little bucket, and he just IGNORES IT and pushes past me

I just thought about trick-or-treating and how there’s joy in giving treats, and joy in receiving them.
And how the kids then enjoy their candy over a short time, budgeting what to eat when, maybe trading with other kids, or just sharing with each other, too.
And I realized that Universal Basic Income could be like that too- we could all share joyfully, receive joyfully (if we want to ask for that) and then people would be empowered to spend or share that little life-treat with others… everybody could love that, just like they love trick-or-treating!

Hay... I mean, Hey... it's Halloween! Chris Logan saw these hay bale "pumpkins" in Clyde Park. Our sky looks like Halloween, the weather looks cool for trick-or-treaters, and November starts Friday!
With tomorrow being a weekday, how early do you think trick or treaters will be out?
We don't usually get a lot so I sit outside a little early so we get everyone.
Halloween Sign - "No candy unless younger than 16."
It's "Trick or Treat." If you don't provide a treat, the trick will likely involve eggs or toilet paper. I know if I was 16 and turned away I would have strongly considered a "trick" like that.
Halloween gate-keepers are going to that special hell.

44 trick or treaters. This year, no parents came up to get candy, but several parents were costumed.
The trick candy bowl got a few of them 
#trickortreat is early this year! Between 6 and 6:30 we were mobbed. Probably a third of our stock depleted
