Things I did from age 6–19 because of the #Ultima series:

1. I lived by the 8 Virtues
2. I founded “The Fellowship” in our school (w/o our school's knowledge)
3. Tried the Mandrake virtues (j/k on this)

If you think that was it… in 2003 I founded the #HolyOrderOfTheLight a multi-game, multi-region gaming guild.

Guess which #Ultima virtues guided me?

“The Axiom of Singularity”

I even wrote this: im.youronly.one/yuki/ultima-6-

“HOL” is still kicking. ^^

That's how influential the Ultima series is for me. It shaped me. It taught me. It's a part of me. #Avatar #Avatarhood

What's your #gaming life story?

@DarkestKale You can cheat. Hehe ;)

It is easy to get lost playing the #Ultima games. There are just too many things to do and side quests that you end up spending more time away from the main plot. Not to mention, the “chat” format is so addicting.

(And speaking of the “chat” format, that's what I miss a lot from #Ultima7 onwards.)

The only Ultima I didn't cheat was from 1 to 4. #Ultima5 is so-so, I accidentally discovered the glass sword technique; then later used PCtools to hex edit. LOL. For #Ultima6, I ended up using “spam spam spam humbug” eventually; U7, yeah, definitely cheated; it's a good game, but I love the U1 to U6 game style; and it was hard for me to adjust to U7's.

U8, didn't even finished. It was so weird. And finally U9, haven't played it. Tried DOSBox recently but I can't make it work properly.

@comchia

This year, I bought the entire packs/bundles of #DnD #DOS classics via #Steam as well as #Ultima 1 to 7 via #GOG.

The last time I played most of these were from 1988 to 1996. One or two I played again sometime early 2000s, randomly.

I already started with #ChampionsOfKrynn and #Ultima7 Part 1, and I'm already cheating. ROFL. I mean, the packs made it easy to cheat.

Back in the 90s, we had to use a hex editor like #PCtools. We open the savegame file, search through it through the hex editor, and did our magic.

It's hard to describe how good #Ultima7 was when it came out. It had complex mechanics that you could experiment with and even abuse, so the path towards the end could get really fun and really weird. In the end that's what an #rpg should be about.

If you don't believe me just go and read the "Fear and Loathing in Forge-of-Virtue" walkthrough. An unparalleled masterpiece of glitch exploits and in-game absurdity: it-he.org/fear.php

@benjedwards Mine is #Ultima6, #Ultima5, #Ultima4, #Ultima7 (both parts), and #Ultima1.

#UltimaVI because I like stories involving other races and worlds. And in Ultima, a new set of principles and virtues as well.

#UltimaV because of Lord Blackthorn. He was misunderstood. He meant well, just happened to associate with the wrong powers. LOL, I always wore Blackthorn's amulet insstead of the Resistance. (Because Resistance is Futile!)

#UltimaIV. I love a good challenge. How to achieve all 8 virtues. This is the kind of #RPG that is lacking in popular “RPG” games today, offline or MMO.

#UltimaVII. Because of the The Fellowship. I actually like their ideals, it makes sense. Like Lord British (at least in the game), it's supplemental to the Axiom of Infinity, not a replacement. Then Part 2, adventure in yet another world with its own set of virtues!

#UltimaI. The one and only chance to visit all four continents on the planet #Sosaria freely. Even Shamino had his own kingdom. If Sosaria was not torn asunder, there would have been more amazing stories to tell. Maybe they have their own #Avatar or something. Or, they developed technology from those advance ships that crash landed on Sosaria.

@rodneylives I'm playing #Ultima7 via #Exult #DOSbox engine. ^_^

Ultima Online is still online, and the new devs (#DAoC devs) are still maintaining it, and releasing content (though I don't follow it). And then there are the private servers.

EA is, evil. Haha. There is absolutely no logical reason why they are holding on to the #Ultima trademark. Every attempt they did to create a new game based on it, were cancelled (those without the Origin team involved). Those that launched failed and eventually closed (like “Lord of Ultima“ (2010)).

The most recent Ultima-related release is #UnderworldAscendant (2018). Unfortunately, EA only licensed the lore and characters, but not the trademark. This prevented them from carrying the name Ultima. It's practically “Ultima Underworld III: Ascendant”.

If they release their hold from the trademark, or let Richard Garriott work on it again, for sure it will generate a buzz and create a new generation of Ultima fans.

By the way, I created a list of Ultima games here: im.youronly.one/yuki/kb/timeli

Might be useful ^_^

@dkozlov Too many games, not enough time. ^_^

Forget about work, and even if you're single and rich, it's only possible to concentrate on one or two games at a time. Games today are rich in content, no longer something we beat and then move on to the next game. It does indeed eat our time.

I used to place SecondLife, too, until they banned my account because they want me to pay for something that I didn't use.

My current game is #GuildWars2 and #Ultima7 / #UltimaVII. I used to shuffle between GW2 and #StarTrekOnline, but the latter upgraded their GPU requirement requiring a certain feature that I don't have, unfortunately.

#Neverwinter is also a game I play, but I'm not a regular player. The thing I don't like with Cryptic patches are: always 1 GB and above, and slow.

While #Quaver is my relaxation game. It's an open-source rhythm game, like #Osu, #O2Jam, and the likes.

Lastly, and most importantly, welcome to the #Fediverse fellow gamer!

my top 5 videogames =
1. Ultima 7 #ultima7 (I didn't want to put more than one but really it's tied for #ultima6 , U7 #blackgate and U7 #serpentisle
2. Baldur's Gate 2 #BG2 (Aerie was my style icon)
3. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 #homm3
4. Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 #poe #poedeadfire (If you loved BG definitely give this one a try)
5. Stardew Valley #stardewvalley

Hard to just pick 5 but those are probably the 5 I have sunk the most hours and love and lore/research into.
