For those using the fancy atomic Linux distros like those built on Universal Blue, how's the experience? Worth investigating? How seamless is installing and updating stuff?
Extra points if you can tell me if VFIO/GPU passthrough for virtualisation is viable!
I drew a Deinonychus, but specifically this is the mascot of Project Bluefin.

Good news! Blue95 Topanga from the WinBlues project is now officially released!
Do you want a hi-tech Fedora 42 based distro that looks exactly like Windows 95? Of course you do!
If you know your classics, you know Asterix always brought his dog Idefix along.
So what better companion to my KDE Aurora spin Asterix than Idefix Saigon? It is Sway Atomic by Universal Blue, and I've thrown in a Hyprland for you as well. But it is all about that nwg-shell, the best GTK toolkit for wlroots compositors around. You know the drill, read about it, get those iso's out and rebase to Idefix-Saigon!

Aurora F42 based betas are now available. We also have something new to show you.

Go get it!
For users who want to try Linux, I recommend this: Do not listen to people who tell you to use Ubuntu, Linux Mint or other variants. They all use the same complex and often breaking mechanisms, and can cause a lot of hassle.
Instead, I recommend these systems:
- #Fedora #AtomicDesktops
- #UniversalBlue #Aurora #Bluefin #Bazzite
- #HeliumOS
Looking forward to #SerpentOS too!
These systems are reliable like an Android phone, while offering you more freedom.
The Universal Blue team was tired of waiting for upstream so we did it ourselves and made a Live ISO builder for `bootc` images: Titanoboa! It's currently in a pretty alpha-ish state since we've started developing this like 3 days ago, but its already somewhat functional and Blue95 (a custom windows95-like image made by Adam Ledif) already has a functioning live installer for the image if you wanna try it out!
What does this mean for you? Faster, smaller, and more accessible installation environments :)

Someone told me Ultramarine Linux was looking to work with Universal Blue.
Well, that's a dumb idea. There have been 4 other developments that tried to work with Universal Blue, but UB sort of help kill off their development. UB is no bodies friend. They'll have you working for them with nothing in return, pretty quickly.

Bazzite/Linux Steam people, have you seen this? It would appear something to do with Steam Input plus Flatpak means a DualShock 4 doesn’t work correctly in some games. I’ve personally seen this with Ultimate Chicken Horse on Bazzite, but someone is reporting the same thing with Museum of All Things from Flathub:
I am very happy with my new work laptop. It's a Framework AMD 13 which I have of course installed https://getaurora.dev on.
Thanks to everyone who made suggestions when I was trying to make the decision a couple of weeks ago.
It does look like I'm getting in just before they announce the new generation, but this will be *plenty* fast for what I need.
Nutze Linux seit '95 und muss sagen, die #universalblue Distros wie #bazzite oder Aurora haben es mir echt angetan. Bin selbst auf #bluefin umgestiegen und sehr glücklich damit!
A reason I am an Atomic Fanboi....
View it as how our Phones work for OS updates or Chromebooks, A/B 1/2 type boot image partitions.
If anything goes bad on an update, I can easily rollback to my last deployed image.
Updating is also less painful.
App data is mostly separate, because embracing flatpak/etc.
I on #Bazzite

But would also recommended to people less gaming foccused:

TLDR custom Fedora Images with extra steps+community efforts out of box.
I started with Fedora KDE 32 back....whenever that was. Then tried Kinoite Beta 38 whenever that was. But #UniversalBlue images ended up being just right.
I went salted earth on windows when my W10 key refused to work on a new motherboard in ~2019, also because Linux fits my personal philosophy as well.
After my brother died, it also gave me some semblance of feeling in control of *something* in this mortal-coil. At least my PC.
I enjoy being a community member and not just a "user" of a corpo product. Proton+Steam Deck did sorta change the gaming landscape, I've been shilling for so long.

If you really wanna dual boot.
I recommend having separate storage drives.
And use UEFI/BIOS to set Linux disk to boot priority #1.
Removes windows boot manager from the equation vs breaking on updates or fighting with grub.
Can also copy your font folder over if you really want.
There's a big new update to the BlueBuild CLI, with some real nice DX upgrades. Thanks @gmpinder
Make sure to read our release blog for a full list of features; and breaking changes!
I kinda outgrew my Linux phase a while back and I’ve been using Universal Blue (Mainly Bluefin and Bazzite) and I gotta say that I am never recommending or going back to another “package management” distro ever again (except you postmarketOS, you’re cool enough). The reliability of a normal Ubuntu setup after an upgrade is horrid and feels worse than Windows 10 (In my experience), Fedora does fare better tho.
Like at this point, I just want something that works and Bluefin and Bazzite does that for me #Linux #universalblue #ublue #bazzite #bluefin
Are you a Fedora Atomic user in need of packages from RPMFusion or Negativo17 repositories?
Or perhaps you want to use a different repo than what your upstream image includes by default?
Our 'bling' module now has helpers for enabling either one of those repositories.

Ever wanted to make your life easier by using a BlueBuild module, without committing to using the BlueBuild build system and recipe format?
Now there's a guide for that!
