#StarTrek's federation is interesting mix of integration and separation.

From the TNG era, all the Federation aliens would serve on Federation ships, but the Klingons kept their own fleet largely homogenous.

Of course, all the alien species had their own largely species-homogenous home planets (except for the #Xindi, hope they show up again). Sorta culturally separate self-governing enclaves that get together and integrate over here in Star Fleet.

Day 8: Favourite Federation Enemy

Xindi-Reptilian

(I know: technically pre-Federation)

Aggressive, powerful and power-seeking, cruel, but with flashes of questioning their mission against Earth, it's mostly the Xindi-Reptilians' fashion sense that warrants this entry in my list. Shiny purple is so in right now, and the practicality of being able to dry up your plates or store your vinyl albums on your shoulders? Genius!

It's a dark corridor with dim purple-blue lighting, and a long, vertical lit section comprised of two columns of blue fluorescent lighting in the background. Two aliens are standing in view. Both are the same species: humanoid, with a face somewhere between a human and a grasshopper topped off with short, stuck-up dreadlocks of skin the same green-grey as their faces. The outfits are shiny, leather-like, deep purple, although the alien foremost in view has a dull coat over the top. Over the shoulders, running from the neck to the top of the arm and then forward over the torso and stomach area are curved rings of metal following the contours of the aliens. You could imagine sticking vinyl albums in them. The feel of the image is menacing.
