What are some tabletop games you would recommend for children?

@ChaskaTheMagicDog I have loved introducing my kids to TTRPGs with Mausritter - it's great for all ages, but especially excellent as a way to get kids to love the hobby.

Also - check out @TTRPGkids for a ton of resources about this.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog The My Little Pony game is an absolute gem of a product in terms of introducing gaming.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog

My son’s a fan of ‘Catacombs of Karak’ and ‘Stuffed Fables’. Both have fun RPG elements and are pretty simple to pick up, but also have a lot of potential for depth and strategy.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog We like using the Mythic gm system for kid-themed adventures that are heavy on roleplay & story but light on stat-keeping.

We also added RP to Mice & Mystics which was great fun.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog Tales of Equestria!!

It's a storytelling game that's set in the MLP generation 4 world. Just right to get a kid interested in tabletop RP!

@ChaskaTheMagicDog Catan or Catan Junior if they are younger. There is a game called 5 minute dungeons that is a fun, cooperative game where all the players work together to defeat monsters.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog Dread might honestly be the most kid-friendly system I've played, as long as you have the right story (and non-death out-of-action explanations) it should be fine

@ChaskaTheMagicDog Just regular Dungeons and Dragons can work, but there is a system for Avatar the last Airbender that might also be interesting! Kind of depends on the age of the kids obviously.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog Would Catan count? It's a fun game and had a LOT of extensions!

@ChaskaTheMagicDog BABIES AND BROADSWORDS YEEESS!!!

But let me be serious. I recommend that game for sure. Its easy to learn so ANYONE can enjoy it.

@ChaskaTheMagicDog
So the boring answer is any game that the kids are interested in that doesn't have inappropriate content. People often underestimate what kids can learn when they're interested in something.

As for games that are aimed at kids, there are a bunch out there. You've got No Thank You Evil and Hero Kids, which have similar vibes of being fantasy adventure games with kids as the target audience.

Princess World is a pbta game written by a dad for his daughter who loves princesses.

Dinosaur Princesses is similarly aimed at kids, you don't necessarily need to be a dinosaur or a princess in the game.

Dinocar is an all ages TTRPG centered around a communal drawing/painting.

Not explicitly for kids, but would probably do the job:
- A lot of OSR/NSR stuff so long as it doesn't have inappropriate content (think Mausritter)
- Quest
- Land of Eem

I'm sure there's plenty of others that I'm forgetting

@ChaskaTheMagicDog A bit self-serving, but I recommend my own game, . It's not designed for kids, but I did design it in a way to make it a game that kids and adults could play together. realmsofpugmire.com

Call of Cthuhu. Kids have to learn the truth about life sometime! There are overpowering, uncaring monsters in life who will eat them and destroy all they value. Why not early?
