Another successful cozy queer craft & chill night. Projects included painting the family dog on an ostrich egg, cross-stitch, embroidery, painting figures for tiny houses, working on real house floorplans, and research for insect embroidery.
Instead of my usual sock darning, I started the beginner embroidery kit my wife got me for my birthday. I learned the saddle stitch and built up some confidence. My goal is to one day freehand embroider to mend some shirts.
@jendefer The phrase, “Another successful cozy queer craft & chill night.” just melted my brain with how awesome that sounds. I don’t know you at all, person on the internet, but what you and your people have created sounds amazing.
@RepresentativeSample I was inspired by another person on the internet. She said she did Zoom shared time with her friends where they all worked on their own projects but felt together. And I thought, I can do that in my own home! Additionally, it was to have a safe hang out space for trans folks and their partners that didn't involve a price or obligation to buy a drink or the noise of crowds. And this way I ensure I do crafting at least one night a month!
@jendefer Such a good idea! And - importantly - you actually implemented it, to everyone’s benefit. I have a non-Mastodon friend who I think this would be something they’d be into. I’ll keep passing the idea along!
@jendefer (Also, full disclosure, when I first read the post - with one eye open, and one brain cell working - I thought it said, “cozy queer craft and chili night” and I was like, “wow, they’ve got a whole crew together that is queer, crafty, AND they all enjoy making and eating chili? This is surely a very well-matched group of folks!” And while I still enjoy my accidental headcanon, the real thing seems better, all things considered.)
Happy crafting!
