Sony Vaio laptops.... Man, these were so choice back in the day!
And thanks to Nixbook Lite, she will run again!
@codemonkeymike @matsuzine I have just put #LinuxMint on a 5-ish year old HP that wasn’t running Win10 (which it was designed for). It’s not as snazzy as my MacBook Pro but it’s definitely working great now. My only problem is Steam, which just won’t run my games on in spite of it being a Linux app.
I have a 10-ish year old ASUS I’m going to try next and I found a 25-ish year old Compaq that I won’t try it on because the rubber/silicone? parts of the case are breaking down.
@Oiselarius @matsuzine for steam, did you go into settings, go to "Compatbility" and "enable steam play for all titles"
I find that works like a charm most of the time!
@codemonkeymike @matsuzine I did and it didn’t seem to work. It said it was playing but was frozen in download mode.
@Oiselarius @codemonkeymike @matsuzine did you install steam from the website or the mint applications program?
@roman78 @codemonkeymike @matsuzine through the Mint “app store”
@Oiselarius @codemonkeymike @matsuzine hmm that one should work. At least it is for me. Maybe try downloading it from the site. You never know.
@roman78 @codemonkeymike @matsuzine I’ll try. It’s not a huge issue because I use my MacBook for the games I want but I figured being an HP it would play the Windows games or older (Intel) Mac games.
@Oiselarius
If you're using the pre-installed Steam app, that could be your issue. For reasons I don't understand, that one always gave me issues on Mint. Getting a different version from the software manager always did the trick for me.
Also, make sure the steam game storage location is accessible. If you put the games on a second partition, that partition not auto mounting will make it impossible to fire up steam games.
You're on the right track!
@codemonkeymike @matsuzine
Have you looked at ProtonDB to check if other users have gotten those games to work?
https://www.protondb.com/
@Oiselarius @codemonkeymike @matsuzine
@oligneisti @codemonkeymike @matsuzine I’ve tried various versions of proton with no effect. I can navigate around the Steam app and it lists the game as playing but the game window never opens.
