New kid joined the “older more focused” group at the library 13th Age game yesterday and knew enough gaming to be able to get started on a character and then finish it while everyone else mopped up the battle they were in the middle. Fortunately in the module I’m using (“The Jagged Edge” from the free samples of MCDMs _Where Evil Lives_) the very next room had cages and a captured NPC to potentially help the heroes. Instant PC insertion! What a useful trope!

So our heroes rather than finding a captured heroic goblin find a Halfling Paladin (Used to be an imperial scout +5; other background not determined) whose potentially goblin-sized armor was being fight over too much so the goblin queen stashed it in this prison storeroom - conveniently present for the new PC to quickly don. Used to living off the land he fashioned himself a club as he explained what he knew of the enemy
Then they asked his name. The usual deer in headlights.

The new player eventually has a flash of inspiration and decides that he will be "Nameless!" Everyone at the table smirks a little before I saw "we'll give you that moment of insight before I let you know you're the 4th player in this larger group to do that. we decided Elves didn't take names until later in life. She," pointing to Numina's player, "didn't have a name until I told her what I used as her name in my notes to distinguish her from the other unnamed PCs"

I find this one odd; the player knew exactly what he wanted to play (assuming 13th Age had both Paladins and Halflings) and a clear idea of the character, but no name. With the kids I normally see either "I am completely new and know nothing, and picking a name scares me" and "Here is the series of short stories I have already written about this character" and not a lot in between.
I'm sure he'll have something by next session. Seems like a good fit so far; eager but not chaos goblin.
