I have an issue with my iPhone 12. I can't hear anyone who calls me or I call unless I'm using headphones or the speaker. Anyone have any troubleshooting ideas?
I forgot to post this yesterday, but my iPhone 12 phone receiver started working normally. It was so weird, as I did nothing to fix it.
@Tim_Eagon are they Bluetooth headphones? I have a similar issue when synced to my car stereo Bluetooth. That seems to take priority. When the call is coming in the speaker symbol or something near there brings up options like speaker, Bluetooth, or iPhone. Choosing the latter makes things normal. I only see that screen when I’ve answered a call, so am relying on memory. lol
@exador23 No, the headphones I use plug into the iPhone. I also tried turning off Bluetooth altogether, but no dice.
@Tim_Eagon huh. Maybe the little ear speaker on your phone is broken. Can you hear voicemail messages through it?
@exador23 Nope, I think it's definitely the ear piece. After more investigation, I guess it was a common problem with iPhone 12s and 12 Pros.
@Tim_Eagon bummer. I have a 12 pro, but I never use the headphone jack. I could see how repeated use of that might tweak the wire to the built in tiny speaker resulting in a common issue.
@exador23 Yeah, it's annoying, but at least I can still use the speaker and headphones to hear calls, which I prefer using anyways.
@Tim_Eagon I had a similar problem with my 12 last fall. Other people could hear me very faintly. It turned out that the holes for the microphone were plugged with pocket lint.
@arathar The people I call can hear me, but I can't hear them. I did clean the receiver area though and it didn't help...
