The season-opener ritual of "Anti-Tick Shield" aka permethrin spray. It's worth the cost/time to do this.

Camouflaged clothing is clipped to a blue tarp laying on a concrete patio outside. The clothes have been sprayed with permethrin, a substance which will repel ticks and other insects, but especially ticks. I hate ticks. I'd burn them with fire, but permethrin will do just nicely.
