I just finished The Nine Eyes of Lucien audiobook and have a lot of thoughts & feelings, but the short version is WOW, 10/10. (9/9?)

Slightly longer version... (spoiler free) 🧵

Madeleine Roux's writing slays—so many beautiful lines I want to quote but won't spoil!—and the worldbuilding, story, & characterization are spot on.

I very much like that things get ~a little weird~ in places. This isn't Ye Olde Fantasy Novel and it doesn't feel like one.

The audiobook version was every bit as spectacular as I could have hoped. Robbie, Matt, Taliesin, and the rest of the cast deliver an impeccable reading. It was so nice to hear certain voices again!

Going into The Nine Eyes of Lucien, I thought the events with the Mighty Nein might inevitably feel repetitive, but instead the final arc was *fascinating.*

There was a little bit of nostalgia for the M9 and *so* much going on in this new perspective. It adds a whole new dimension that enriches the existing story.

I would love to see more books (or other media) in Exandria centered on non-player characters, though that's at least in part because I crave all the lore and worldbuilding. (Novella about Some Dude who lived in Vasselheim in 291 P.D.? Not marketable, but I'd eat it up.)

Anyway, I'm excited to check out the physical book and reread all my favorite bits! (Apparently the typesetting is masterful and I'm also going to nerd out over that.)

A sweeping bow to the whole team, and long may he reign.
