The sun rises on a mountain village along the Kisokaido (more commonly called the Nakasendo), one of two routes connecting Edo (now Tokyo) with Kyoto. On our left, a plum tree (or is it a cherry?) is just beginning to bloom, its branches reaching up and over a rickety-looking garden fence; rising behind us, the sun casts long shadows along the empty road in the center of the image. Eiffel Tower clones are a dime a dozen and this Nagoya version is made of stainless steel and has an observation deck near the top and at the juncture of the legs with the more straight part of the design. It's surrounded by city landscape on a day that wasn't exactly sunny.

Japanese egrets? I'm terrible at both ends of a camera and had only an old smartphone to hand, but on a bike ride around the local reservoir yesterday, these @urbandinosaurs were clustering together on a couple of trees at water's edge, about 50 per tree, perched in pairs by the look of it. Beautiful creatures.

The 15th Conference of the parties to the Convention on #BiologicalDiversity (CBD) – or #COP15 has not yet ended & it is already safe to say that nothing will come of it. Or, let's say, almost nothing. Whatever the agreement and the commitments made on December 19, in #Montreal #Canada , there is every reason to believe that they will suffer the same fate as the " #Aichi Targets" – adopted at the end of the #COP10 in Nagoya ( #Japan ), in the fall of 2010.
