The blueprint out of misery was given to us, the first-principles laid out, it was always up to each generation to do the work.
The way you know a core value is core is that by adhering to it, it costs you something.
There is pain, friction, and noise in maintaining first-principles.
We do these things because they are hard.

I posted to #LinkedIn, the hashtags of #FirstPrinciples and #CoreValues, and the video of Chris Murphy speaking about a U.S. permanent resident being “disappeared”, with text saying:
“The U.S. #Constitution protects the right to free speech.
“It is enshrined in the #FirstAmendment of the Bill of Rights.
“It even protects speech you don’t like.
“Especially speech you don’t like.”
Based on the post analytics after 9 hours, it appears shadow-banned.

This is an oblique way of saying “we can’t be anti-fascist”, without actually articulating the #FirstPrinciples and #CoreValues they do stand for, such as #republicanism.
Weak sauce.
#CoreValues aren’t “core” until, and unless, they cost you something.
Friction - intellectual, emotional, or even physical - is a leading indicator of the #SunkCost.
When an executive’s first thought of a #library is negative, that might be a leading indicator of flawed #leadership, absent #CoreValues, and misaligned #FirstPrinciples.

I've been fired from more than a couple of jobs for not only refusing to follow unethical & immoral orders & have also had full out yelling/scream fights with super ignorant, hella privileged supervisors before, when they've been OK, exploiting underpaid employees. I'm no fucking robot. I fight for workers' rights - especially those with zero union protections. I won't just follow orders, if the orders violate all of my core values & ethics.
Jobs are replaceable - even if you end up working for lesser than you're used to.
My conscience is NOT replaceable.

4 months #CarFree! 
Didn't use my car much in the year before selling it. 
But, boy, was it a process to make that final decision! 
Since then I:
Walked & biked more for groceries 
Started regularly writing on the train
Saved already as much as half a new (nice!) bike
Made some new connections (car driving was lonely)
Love having the choice now of walking, biking, taking a bus or a train or some rental mobility.

Humanist syncretic pluralism is a construct that can exist.
I believe everyone should make a good-faith effort to develop #FirstPrinciples, #KnowThyself, and their own #CoreValues.

I work with a mountain biking / strength coach, and she has asked her clients to go through a Core Values identification exercise - choosing three words that focus their goals and intentions.
It's been helpful to rethink these ideas in the midst of midlife, family health challenges, career decisions, etc. And I'm noticing that my core values have shifted over time.
