Was very sad to hear that my absolute favourite artist, renowned Colombian painter & sculptor Fernando Botero - whose depictions of people & objects in plump, exaggerated forms became emblems of Colombian art around the world - has died. He was 91

One day I was walking around the Upper East Side and came across a Botero sculpture (not this one) in front of an apartment building.
Years later I went back to look for it but it was gone. The doorman told me Botero had an apartment there and had loaned it to the building, but it had been moved to someplace in Europe.

Botero is one of my favorite artists. very saddened to learn he died. His style was known as “boterism”. He painted everyone in large and supple proportions—almost to the point —but sometimes not quite, distortion. Much of the work was satirical though other times filled with political criticism.
