It's been a while since I've posted anything about Our Lady of The Little Mermaid, Hans Christian Andersen. This one is a tiny detail from her autobiography "The Fairy Tale of My Life" [Mit Livs Eventyr]:

In page 81 of the English translation = page 110 of the Danish original, Andersen speaks about Madame Lässöe [Fru Læssøe]: "yes, and if there be tenderness and purity in anything which I have written, they are among those things for which I have especially to be thankful to her."

Now, I don't speak Danish, but I can still point out the fact that the original text doesn't say "tenderness" but rather "kvindelighed" which means "femininity". [kvinde- "woman" -lig- "ly" -hed "hood"]. I looked it up in a few dictionaries and it's always translated as "femininity" and never as "tenderness".

So, basically, Hans Christian Andersen thanks Fru Læssøe for contributing to the femininity of her work.

This article would have been better if the writer had taken the trouble to learn how to spell Andersen.

And as for Andersen's visage? Whatever. I can think of several actors who could quite easily portray him: Liam Neeson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Adam Driver(!), Damian Lewis, Owen Wilson, etc... He couldn't have been as ugly as his envious contemporaries would have us believe. Striking, perhaps, but well within the realms of human.

#Denmark is more than #Greenland. It is also the home country of the famous author #HansChristianAndersen, who not only wrote "The Little Mermaid", "The Princess and the Pea", "The Snow Queen" and "The Ugly Duckling" but also "The Emperor's New Clothes".

And to those of you who have forgotten: the Emperor was (and still is) naked.
