@martinschemm

After 3 months that I have created an open letter trying to persuade politicians to leave X, I have just noticed a very interesting number. In 10 days, the petition that endorses the letter got more than 1500 signatures. From that day in, that is more than 80 days, there were less than 1000 new signatures. We have less than 2400 signatures at the moment: openpetition.eu/leavex

There were two people with several followers here on the Fediverse sharing the petition right after it was started, @randahl and @eloquence . I wonder if that's the reason there were so many signatures in a few days, then it faded out. Or maybe there is some network effect when it comes to online petitions.

I still believe that politics is done face to face. Unfortunately, I haven't found an organization to take over the petition, which would make it easier to gather signatures on the streets. I've talked to a few, and I'll keep trying.

openPetitionAn Open Letter to All European Politicians and Leaders to Abandon X/Twitter - Online petitionThis open letter in other European languages https://leavex.eu (https://leavex.eu) European Politicians and Leaders Must Act Now to Protect Democracy Since Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter over two years ago, the platform—now rebranded as X—has taken a troubling turn. The growing influence of its CEO in shaping political narratives and promoting specific ideologies, including altering how content is prioritized to reflect his own interests, has become increasingly apparent. As one of the world

Ha! The Open Letter to All European Politicians and Leaders to Abandon X has finally been published. I didn't get a confirmation email, but I decided to check before sending a grumpy email to the site administrators.

I feel that the campaigns encouraging people to leave X have slowed down, but we still have millions of fools indirectly supporting Musk's agenda. My primary concern is with the politicians whose salaries we contribute to and whom we can demand. Now is the time to reach out and see if there are any leaders in Europe with the guts to take a stand.

Their feedback will be crucial.

The old-fashioned petition site of the @EUCommission europarl.europa.eu/petitions/e

Yeah, the text formatting is all broken and we can barely read it without paragraphs. I cannot edit, maybe I need to send a FAX.

P. S. sorry, I will have first to send a grumpy email. I noticed the petition was not published yet after almost 3 months. I was misled because I saw the "Status: New", but I was logged in!

@ozzelot I hope that those who want to delete their account start their grace period right away, create their Mastodon account, search for their contacts on #X, reconnect and delete that contact on #leaveX. To those who they don’t find send DM to join you all over there. Once they’ve deleted all their contacts on leaveX, they can naturally and painlessly delete their account – and be free of X.

I started the @leavex campaign on January 6, when the Open Letter was published. Before I created the petition on open petition, I first submitted it to the @EUCommission's petition website. I got an answer that they are analyzing this petition on the 22nd of January. It's already more than 2 months and no concrete feedback. I'll send an email after my work.

That's the sense of urgency we have in the European Parliament on disinformation campaigns undermining our democracies.

What I know I could do better. I should:
- have made it shorter. It was tool long, it shouldn't be more than 10 minutes
- not have read the response of the Brazilian judge of the Supreme Court answering the US will to forbid him to enter the country
- have mentioned the important legal case won by @Freiheitsrechte in a Berlin court against X and mentioned the importance of the European legislation on such cases (DPA and GDPR)
- have made it more fluid

Feedback welcome.

There seems to be a consensus among reasonable people* that we shouldn't give a stage to fascists. What surprises me is that few people have realized that you shouldn't be on a fascist's stage, no matter how many cool people follow or listen to you.

It's a political act to draw attention away from the disinformation tools used to push a far-right agenda. Afraid of losing your precious connections? Tell them where you're going, and those who matter will follow.

* No, those who make decisions in the mainstream media are obviously not among the reasonable.

🐘 Good news gefällig?
